They need quite a bit of work. Try searching for some world painter tutorials or timelapses on youtube, you can learn a lot from them, as I did. With enough practice you could be able to do stuff like this:

I think your custom terrain builds are good especially the hills one, but I think you need to be more adventurous with your designs and patterns in your build! ~Nipz
