Hello,
I have decided to build a PC. It will mainly be used for programming and Minecraft gaming. My budget is around $300-$500. I have already decided on using a $100 128GB SSD and have a case/power supply picked out. What's really troubling me is the CPU and GPU/video card.
I like the price and awesomeness of an AMD A10-5800K Trinity (quad-core 3.8 GHz) CPU, but I don't know how good the built-in video card is. I have considered using Intel components, but they are expensive. If the built-in AMD card isn't good enough what do you recommend and why? Does anyone have any advice on this matter? If someone has a similar machine/build, can you inform me on your average FPS.
This is what I currently have planned out, but I'm pretty flexible as long as it stays under $500 (keep in mind I'm planning on an SSD). Also, please inform me if there are better deals out there on parts I have.
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130662 @ $57)
Processor: AMD A10-5800K Trinity (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819113280 @ $130)
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231314 @ $53)
Case/PSU: IN WIN BK644.BN300TBL MicroATX 300W Power Supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811108191 @ $70)
SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820147188 @ $110)
Hard Drive: HGST HDS721050CLA362 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822145299 @ $60)
Total: $480
Thanks in advance,
Zippy

88888gb of ram i have. im brushing my toy twilight sparkles hair while im listing to ur invaid arguments
Your posts never cease to amuse me.
Just no! No! 1gb of ram is TERRIBLE! You need at least 4gb!
You obviously aren't very informed about VRAM. Most cards are 2 GB, with very few exceeding 3.
Regular RAM is what you are talking about.
Regular RAM is what you are talking about.
^^^ What he said. This is VRAM, not RAM. And, yes, with this build I am getting 8GB of RAM which is PLENTY for even high-end games. The only reason I'd need 16GB would be video editing and rendering.
1 GB model will definitely be enough.
Thanks. This is really an upgrade for me anyways being that I'm running on 256MB VRAM at the moment.
EDIT: Never mind.
BEskindDUDE, we are talking about
$164.99 - 2gb
vs
$129.99 for 1gb.
are you going to Dual Wield sometime in the future?
LOL
I'd buy that PC.

This actually is a relevant point now that the EVGA 2GB 650 ti just went on sale at newegg. Do I really need a 2GB model though? Is it worth the extra $30-50? I really just use one 1080p monitor right now for light gaming.
Depends on what types of games you'll be playing. Lots of games now are starting to use over 1 GB of VRAM.
Mostly Minecraft and small steam games like The Train Simulator or Castle Crashers
Pretty good deal on that 650ti. Go ahead and get it.
Any advise on the video card?
Also, can anyone recommend a good 500W power supply that will last me, but not break my wallet? Thanks.

Just found the 650 Ti at newegg for $120 (with rebates). Is it worth the extra 10 bucks to go with the 650 ti and will 430W suffice? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130839
That's OK, but the 6300 is newer, higher clocked, and comes with the new Piledriver architecture.

I would suggest 500W of power. That is the BEST thing you can upgrade right now, because without power, you will have no power for upgrades in the future. A video card would be a good idea if you plan to game at all, but since you said you plan to use Linux I presume you are more of the developer type? If so, give yourself a pat on the back. Linux is always best.

Notice the same thing is said? I don't mind people copying what I say and saying it again, but please give credit to me. I don't care how small of a thing it is, especially if it is help.
Check the first page, scroll down to find where I posted this.
I will be using Linux with a dual-booted 7 license (for games) I have. I figure if I will want to upgrade my video card, I'll just buy a new power supply then.
Are you going to build the computer? If so thats best for gaming
Yes, I am building this computer. The goal of this build is to create a mid-range, but very capable gaming computer. This goal is very possible with an AMD custom-built machine.
I'm not sure what you mean about "thats best for gaming". If you mean that custom-building is, of course it is. I'd rather build my computer than pay someone else a hundred dollars to build it. It gives you a better bang for the buck.

Just made some revisions. Here it is if any of you are interested. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HL8m
I'm looking at doing the same thing but I have a little higher budget by about $1,400 lol when I get everything decided upon and get around to buying the stuff I will make a post so you guys can see it all and I might make a video when I build it
Hard drive is way too small for me.
Check this out.. some of them you may afford

Good luck!

Don't go with AMD.
'AMD vs Intel' is rather easy, as AMD's current lineup of mobile CPUs is objectively horrible. You know there's an issue, when their flagship processor, the A10-4600M, is only as fast as Intel Core i3s. So the best advice is to avoid AMD at all costs.

And The AMD FX 8350 Black Edition 8 core 4GHz AM3+ Boxed Processor or Opteron 6272 16 core 2.1GHz Socket G34 Processor kicks the ass of all the intels I've seen buy for laptops I agree intels are better to a point
Yeah, the Opteron is better than all the Intel desktop processors and the 8350 beats all the Intels besides the I7 3770k, but it is barely less powerful, and is $150 less.
This thread is already decided that AMD is fine. Please read before you post.
^^^
Exactly what he said. If you look at benchmarks anyway, AMD beats any Intel processor within $100 easily. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+FX-6300+Six-Core&id=1781

Yes it is . Provides benchmarks, best prices, discounts, compatibility, and estamited wattage all in one place.
OK. I'm pretty much decided then. In case anyone wanted to look at my final build, here it is. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GYbi Nice stock high clock speed and easily overclocked.
That website is so awesome, btw.
At this point, it's between the Radeon 7750, GTX 650, and 550 Ti. Any opinions?
Processor: Intel 3+ with at least quad core.
Video card: Nvidia Gtx 450+
Video card: Nvidia Gtx 450+
I'd like to stay under 150, so that is a little less appealing. On the nVidia side, is a GTX 650 OK? 550 Ti?
650 is fine.
How much does the 630 cost?
I just found a MSI N630GT-MD4GD3 GeForce GT 630 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127684&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=) on Newegg. Does this sound good? Its cheap and, according to the Minecraft Wiki hardware performance page, it works quite well with MC (100-200 FPS).
Eh, 620 is practically the same card and offers the same performance. Is also cheaper.
Also, why not get a 650ti? Much better performance but still under $200.

The GPU I linked you is much better than the GeForce GT 630.
Thanks for the suggestions! I have decided to steer away from an i5 because I can get a 6-core FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz for 60 bucks less and from what I understand, with a processor that size, the GPU is really going to be my bottleneck.
What's really troubling me is the motherboard and GPU/Video card (more so than the mobo). I need a motherboard that allows me to overclock has a decent amount of USB ports (don't need 3.0) and expansion slots. For video card I need:
Here's my current build, again the mobo and video card are subject to change. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Gq5q.

- Runs Minecraft at 100+ FPS on max settings (Extreme render distance, fancy graphics, etc). This is so I can run GPU intensive mods such as Shaders later on with an okay FPS. Anything above 60 is good, I just want to be able to use intensive mods.
- Works well with an AMD FX-4300.
- Under $200 USD. Preferably lower.
- Works well with OpenGL. Minecraft uses OpenGL and I will be using this machine mostly for Minecraft and low-end things like browsing. I don't want to spend $200 on a video card that only gets me 30 FPS.
Here's my current build, again the mobo and video card are subject to change. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Gq5q.
A note, it is physically impossible for the human eye to tell the difference from anything 40 - 60 FPS and up. Your requirements should be around 50+ FPS if you want it 100% smooth.
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/video-card/#r=1024&c=81&m=104 one of these should do you well.
