Alright, so lets jump right in. Wednesday night, a man came to my house asking me to sign a petition for a new internet tower to built less than a mile from my house. He achieved the goal of 20 signatures, which is what he needed. So my question is, how long will it be from now to the time the tower is turned on? Idk if it will need approval (which is the part that takes so long) considering it's a petition (and he got more names than needed in the end). Thanks in advance.

And I never said you were wrong. I simply asked you your source. Because litterally everything I've looked at 2, maybe 3 months and randomly you say 8 months and are positive that that's the answer. I also doubt it would take 8 months considering it's basically a tall tower made of rods and wires. Just saying.

Construction of the tower has begun! Land is being cleared (trees cut down). I will know when they complete each step as it turns out that it's being built next my friend's, who lives down the road, house.

I get like an average of 5.5mbps here. It's insane.

EDIT: Sometimes it's so bad the speed drops to 3mbps. Once it plummeted to 2mbps. And once the down speed was 4kb/s.

I got the worst I think (Australia but getting NBN soon so speeds will increase by ALOT, if you don't know what the NBN is here: http://www.nbnco.com.au/)

I can only get satellite internet where im at... and we have a bandwidth limit. x.x and believe me, we've looked. lots of people have looked. even people I've met on here have looked, because of how bad it is. x.x literally no other options. god I hate it.

Same here. The cons with satellite internet outweigh the pros. Sure, it can get up to 26mbps on very lucky days, but most of the time its quite slow. Also, you have to pay a LOT (120 dollars for xfinity) to get unlimted GB and even though I have slow internet, I spend a lot of time on my computer. By the way I know these things because my neighbor has HughesNet.

You would need a carrier for your phone to get cell service.

Most internet towers run on 3G, 4G wireless internet, There's always the chance that that tower will be sharing it's bandwidth with that of cell service, yes.

@ Azie, if only you knew... Haha, I'm in the same boat as the OP, I know I'm being ripped off for my internet, but still, it's better than dial-up.

Well, right now I'm on a 56k modem.. so. It's still a HUGE improvement. The only types of wifi I can get is Verizon (and its actually slower than dial-up here for some reason) and HughesNet (And I don't want a limit on the Gigs i can use.) So, to have something that I can play Multiplayer on PS3, download Steam, watch youtube, skype, etc is amazing for me.

I feel truely horrible for you. The internet prices for the speed you described are terrible. I have Comcast in my area and pay somewhere around $80 monthly for 50 down/5 up internet.

I get slightly better then that, but Canada has the lowest average upload speeds in the developed world. That was shown on the news lately.

But I get 50/30mbps, Luckily I live in a region of Canada that the internet has the highest speeds out of all Canada. And that is for about $70/month.

Thanks. The tower will have speed choices. ie cheapest is 45$ for 3 mbps and 75$ for 7 mbps. Still a HUGE improvement over my old internet. I think I will be buying the 7mbps. Anyways, I have concluded that it will be here by christmas. And thats assuming it takes 5 months to approve and 3 months to build (2 to 3 months is the average time it takes to build it is what I found out with some research.) So.. yep. Thanks for the quick responses guys.

O___O $75 for 7 MPBS? Ridiculous pricing, much? I pay $40 for 40 MPBS down and 5 up.

Different locations have different prices for internet. It's kind of like gas or water.

Depending on the location.
I'm 100% sure no one knows on how long it takes. Inly the people building the tower.

Lucky you anyway, my area i'm receiving a speed of 2mbps of down/speed.

Thanks
