Today I was wondering why in the world are yawns contagious?! I always think of this every now and then when I'm bored, but why do you guys think they're contagious? If you have any theories post them here!

My theory is that they believe yawns are contagious, and they want others to believe them too. Therefor, when someone yawns, they yawn. Before you know it everyone believes yawns are contagious and just yawn because they want to prov- Nvm. I have no idea how to format this sentence. You get the idea.

Yea but why is it when you yawn people around you yawn? Why are they contagious? My theory is that when you see someone yawn, it reminds you that you're tired so you yawn.

Because watching someone yawn is so boring you yawn? That's my best theory.

Actually it dates back further...It's telling your body, and others near you (your pack) to sharpen your senses, Don't fall asleep...There could be danger near! Something like that anyway...

It all dates back to caveman times. They used it as a signal to start and find somewhere to rest and sleep when the clan (i think thats what it is called) started yawning.
