What Server Host do i use?
i need help, i want to host a minecraft server, but i dont want to pay any money. I tried using hamachi but it planted a virus in my computer... any other suggestions?

Hamachi does not host anything to clear up any confusion it allows you to all join a shared network and therefore allows you to play minecraft.
Bukkit is a server program it is really good but doesn't host anything.
now to the question if you are looking to host a server you can really pick up some cheap servers that are just as professionally hosted as the uber large ones. someone mentioned treepuncher.com $5 a month would get you your 5 players. daddycheese.com is another good hosting service at about the same price. I would suggest getting a company to host it as you wont get the performance with a regular home solution they are less laggy and really a bit more fun as long as you know how to use ftp you are golden and on your way.

Woah, hold the phone. Hamachi hosts servers? I thought it was a free port forwarding service (you know, in case you don't know how to port forward).

hamachi is a server host. go to google and type "Download Hamachi for Free" and look for something that says "Free LogMeInHamachi Download"
use bukkit dev to run your server and hamachi to host it i have done that and had over 10 people on at once with no lag

What the first person said. Or just host your own. There is a guide on how to set them up somewhere around on the blogs.
more would be nice. i have about 5 friends who play minecraft. they all want to join my server. and none of them have a good enough hosting connection

i was using hamachi for months, and it just randomly placed the virus. i used the legit hamachi. it was logmeinhamachi and the URL was the real site
so there is no free server hoster other than hamachi?
just stick with hamachi... make sure u have the legit version though dude. I might put my server up though so mabey i will op you
