If Mojang Copyright YouTube Videos
What would happen if Mojang copyright Minecraft like Psy had done with Gangnam Style? Would hundreds of YouTubers lose their jobs? Or would they find ways around it? I am curious.

Its pretty unfair too say 'no you can't do that ' to people who put content that people enjoy watching.
If Mojang found that SkyDoesMinecraft and other video makers were damaging their business, then of course they could make it a violation to upload videos.
LOL, No.
What if they stopped allowing it NOW, not from the beginning.
Good bye machinima crews like crafted movie and itsjerryandharry
Yogscast would survive
most channels based on minecraft would die off and well alot of the community in minecraft would get bored then people would give up minecraft

If Mojang completely got rid of videos of minecraft LPs and such. The entire minecraft community would go crazy. It'd be really bad if that happened. Infact, without YouTube, minecraft wouldn't have gotten a lot of sales. So honestly, Mojang wouldn't get big loads of cash if they never allowed videos of it.
qNotch allows videos of his game as Minecraft has no advertisement, it relys on Youtube and websites like this to suppply him with money,
He'd be making money without Youtube and Planetminecraft, not as much- but he'd certainly still have people buying his game.....
This reminds me of a common call of duty topic. But, why would they? All of the videos people make are free advertising...
It's the same as Call of Duty / Halo videos. You're allowed to make all the videos you want of playing their game. But you're not allowed to put ads next to them or make money off of them, because you're using their textures and their engines.
Why did Psy? He wouldn't have gotten all his views if it wasn't for other people parodying/reacting to his video. I know a video and game is different.
Some people don't want others getting popular over their work, like many youtubers are popular over other peoples works and if they took the right away from them to video they would have nothing.
That would be a good way for Mojang to almost end the era of minecraft
Azie
Still good to assume otherwise.
It's always a good idea to lean assumptions towards the less legally-entangling way if you're unsure.
I saw that some games don't allow non-machinima channels to upload videos of their games? Or at least monetize them.
If they did copyright nobody would have discovered minecraft in the first place!
Mojang does have copyrights for Minecraft. It would be kind of rediculous to say "you can't make videos of our game", so this is allowed in their Terms of Use. You cannot use any Minecraft assets (including video) commercially however, meaning you must have proof of permission from Mojang to monotize your Youtube account and earn money from your Let's Plays of Mojang's games (unless you have a partnership with a large gaming community like Machinima who obtains permission globally when they get permission to use game recordings of specific games commercially).
That's not completely true. This is from Mojang's Minecraft Name, Brand and Assets Usage Guidelines:
"If you upload videos of the game to video sharing and streaming sites (like YouTube) you are however allowed to put ads on them."
"If you upload videos of the game to video sharing and streaming sites (like YouTube) you are however allowed to put ads on them."
Oh. I have no idea how I completely missed that part then. xD

I think Notch tweeted that he had the option to get paid for youtube videos of Minecraft, but he declined the offer, he also got an offer for ads on minecraft's website.
Ahh, very intresting topic i doubt that would happen, i discovered mc from youtube so yeah. NEVAH GUNNA HAPERN
I doubt that would happen. There is too many videos and it would be way to hard to remove them all.
