I run a build with Intel i7 3770k, 16 gigs of Ram and a HIS Radeon HD 6670.
I notice that Minecraft is a processor dependent game. A jump in graphic cards won't make much of a difference.
As for my speeds, I run a server... I only go on that server nowadays.
The peak fps I've reached was around... 430 fps.
I get an average of 120~150 fps during normal play.
I have my settings as:
Graphics: Fancy
Smooth Lighting: Maximum
Particles: All
Render Distance: Far
Advanced OpenGL: On
Clouds: On
VSync: On
I can also conclude from after playing Minecraft on various desktops and laptops, that most laptops will struggle trying to run Minecraft at 60 fps average.

My Frames massively vary on my multiplayer server. Often I have 100-300 fps when there is alot of stuff on the screen, in caves i can have well over 1000 fps, however occasionally i do dip under 100 fps. Anything under 45fps feels wierd.

60-90

On my old computer, I used Optifine Light and turned down all the settings and got 30 FPS, which was a pretty good framerate for me at the time. On my new computer, I get around 70-100 FPS with Optifine Normal and most settings turned down.

Your brain can only register 30 so any more is pointless. Cinemas only show at 40 fps

I always play with v-sync on, so my FPS never goes over 60. It usually borderlines 59-60.

SP: 60-70
MP: 10-30
If you've home-hosted a server, you should know. It's because plugins take up a lot of the data proccessing
MP: 10-30
HawkstormerSP: 70-100
MP: 20-30
I just don't get it.

You used to be able to glitch tekkit and get the sound to not load. When I was able to do that, I ran 40 fps or so. In any other situation however, I typically will get about 10-15. When i'm really lucky though, i can manage to get 20-25.
1
I usally get from 2 fps to 23 fps on the medium settings... why so low??
1
im locked at around 5-15 fps my intel 965 express chipset is worse than most of yours
1
I get around 500-1000 fps on a plot world(server). Usually 200-300 in a survival world.

I get about 400-500 in most scenario's except for MP because then it drops to about 300-320, but I'm going to go with the rest, above 120 is pointless ( I have 120Hertz )
But then again, I do heavy video and photo editing plus video capture in 1080p and sometimes animating.
My "Humble Machine" as I call it ( And yes, I am a AMD fan )
AMD FX-8350 @ 5Ghz
4x 7770 for a total of 8Gb of GDDR5 Memory
16Gb of Corsair Vengeance
1x 4 TB WesternDigital Black
1x 256Gb Samsung ( 840 I believe ? )
And a 1400 Watt power supply ( Forgot the brand )

1
Im using a mac so my FPS is high. I don't know exactly.
1
I get around 270 with everything on fancy and no other windows open. Minimal settings with optifine is about 400
1
Now I have Optifine so it sits around 60 FPS with Rei's Minimap
1
140-150 SP, 160-180 MP
1
I'm on a MacBook so mine sits around 17 xD
1
Well, I can get mine up to the 850's, but I have to turn the render distance down all the way. On average, I get about 160, probably 120 on servers.

I don't see the obsession with high FPS. Seriously, your brain can only process so much; even Disney films are animated (at least were) at 24FPS.
1
This, is true, If I get ... around 30 fps I'm fine, All the stuff I do in aftereffects uses 29 fps and looks great, absurd amonts of FPS aren't too useful, unless your filming cinematics/running shaders all the time.
1
Once you go 120hz monitor and 120fps its hard to go back, anything less than 60 or even 120 doesnt seem smooth enough to me now after having used a 120hz monitor for over a year now.
1
The only reason people care about FPS above 60 is for bragging rights. Just like people brag about the 64GB of RAM they have, or the 4.2GHz Overclock that they will never use.
Without mods I'll usually get 400-500 FPS, with GSLS shaders and 128x Sphax I'll get a solid 30

i have that ram and overclock on my pc.... and push it to the max on a daily basis for my graphic, video and rendering work :/
+ to keep with the flow mc says i have 250-350 on best settings (drops to 80 with shaders) but as people stated over 60fps is pointless + cant notice it anyway just nice to have

It's kind of crazy, true story, but... Y'know FVDisco? He gets around 2000.

I get around 500-600 depending on intensity of the world/server
But then again I have 4 7770's in crossfire so it's not the average computer
