Several times (Sadly I've got no screenshots) I've been attacked by a witch that probably spawned during the night. I was able to kill her soon enough, but I've started wondering, WTB was she doing away from her little hut?

Yeah, as of 1.8 they have decided to make them spawn everywhere, giving witch huts no real reason to be a thing.

also i heard that in 1.8 if a villager gets struck by lightning they will turn into witches - says the doctor telling some random villager kids at night by a fire

They spawn rarely in all dark areas now.

In 1.7 or 1.6 they spawn at random now!
