Hello guys, I recently got DDoSed by somebody, and I know who it is. I know that is illegal. Does anybody know where I can send the info of the hacker? I really want him to learn his lesson.

It is illegal, but as Azie has already said, there's not much you can do "legal-wise" for a small scale thing. Unless you've suffered major financial loss and have grounds to sue for damages, and can even pay for a legal team, there's no point in pursuing it in a civil sense. Criminally you'd have even less of a chance, as you'd need local authorities to get involved and if it's deemed as a waste of time (if it goes far enough) you can be fined.

Though, if you do feel you should do something about it, and know enough about the person doing it, you should start by contacting both your and their local police station. Please, don't try to Ddos them back; that will land you in hot water. Let the authorities handle it.

I doubt anyone thinks it's ok... which is probably why it is illegal.

Try reporting it to your local police station, and see what they say you should do. They're basically paid to know how to deal with this or tell you where to go to deal with this.

I second this.

If you have the information of the person who is doing this to you, it might be even better to contact their local police station so they can investigate, should they decide to.

No, I would not like to retaliate back by doing what he did to me. Hacking is wrong.

What is ddosed? I assume it is some form of hacking, but I have never heard of it and am afraid I will somehow get flagged if I search it.

A denial of service, just a simple ping attack that overloads your internet and makes it slow.

DDoS isnt a simple process. There is hardly anything simple about it besides the dumbed-down description. Simply put, DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. Its thousands of computers infected with a virus/worm that, when activated, ping whatever IP/internet address that it is set to on the host computer. But alot of times when someone DDoses a minecraft server, what happens is they pay a fee to some hacker that already has a ping-bot network set up and then they can DDoS whatever IP/internet address they want, whether there is a minecraft server open or not.

This. I wish people didn't throw the term "DDoS" around to mean any kind of denial of service attack (this guy didn't; I mean people in general). There's a fine line between a DoS and a DDoS attack, and that line is drawn by the word distributed. Most "DDoS" attacks on servers are in reality just DoS attacks.

Though, I had no idea people would stoop so low as to pay someone to use their botnet to DDoS a video game server...

English version: When someone "Pings" or repetedly sends out a signal to a wifi network, too much pinging can slow down the internet, people use bots to ping wifi networks with thousands of bytes of data which darn near stops the internet. This is completely illegal, there are however services that can prevent DDoS, like VPN

My friend's server was DoS'd by someone a while back (which is most likely what happened to you -- no one's gonna infect computers to create a botnet to attack a Minecraft server). Luckily we had his IP, so my friend reported it to the FBI, who tracked him down and arrested him.

Unfortunately, with the state the government is in right now, they may have more important things to deal with. :/

Chances are government agencies really aren't going to care unless you're some billionare megacorp and, unfortunately, that's the only place you can go to and get your intervention/justice legally.
