frowned upon? depends on who you talk to. lots of servers require you to have the purchased version of the game. Most people I know started out by playing a copied/pirated version, and loved it so much they bought it to support Mojang.

but i played on someone elses server before, it never said user not premium. And i admit i never payed for mc, is this frowned upon lol. and I love the game so I will probably buy one, thanks

It says user not premium because you haven't paid for the account.

Buy minecraft and help support Notch and Minecraft.
