Why does TommyInnit have subtitles in his videos?
Dream SMP YouTubers such as Tommy and Nihachu often have subtitles in their videos even though I can hear them perfectly fine (especially Tommy). Anyone know why they do this?
EDIT: This isn’t about the YouTube subtitles. This is about the subtitles that the creators put in the video themselves.

⚫ engagement
⚫ deaf people
⚫ people who don't understand his speech well because English isn't their first language, or they just don't have great hearing
⚫ screenshots of the video will show what he said, I guess it's useful for making out of context memes???

It's for better engagement. Subtitles --> better watchtime --> YouTube recommends their content more.
I found it to be a little effective but troublesome to do for my channel since I'd have to do the captions for my own videos myself. I only do captions for a few select videos but bigger creators can do this for all their videos since they outsource the caption creation to third party sites.

its for hearing impared people?
I saw in a video once that the subtitles are a trick to get better engagement and higher watch time.
I don't really understand someone speaking English, just more in text, because it's not my native language, depending on where the person lives, especially those who speak very fast, I understand almost nothing.
And subtitles generated from YouTube are not 100% accurate, as well as being complicated to read.

Accessibility for deaf people (which is already mentioned) and slow reading/not that great at english people
It is for the deaf people to see what are they talking.
I think it's because the fanbase post the subtitles themselves, not the creators.
I don’t think so because it is posted by themselves and never gets touched to the cummonty
Interesting, because they don't subtitle everything. It doesn't make much sense.
That is true
