Medicine hat is the name given for a rather rare and easily recognizable pattern of pinto horse. this pattern is a type of "tovero" expression on a horse, which means, a pattern that mixes both characterstics of the tobiano type pattern and the overo type of pattern.
This marking is known mostly for the mostly to total white body and legs, even when present, the colored spots are few and not very extensive, aswell as the mostly white face with a colored spot extending from ear to ear on the top of the head. Just as it happens to the body, colored bits on the face are few and usually small.
The name comes from the fact that the characteristic colored ears ressemble a hat, cap or bonnet, aswell as some myths surrounding the color.
