Metamorph (from Metamorphosis) – a Minecraft mod for 1.10.2 (there is also build for 1.9.4 and 1.11.2), which allow players to morph into different vanilla mobs. Heavily inspired by iChun's Morph mod and zacuke's Shape Shifter Z mod.

Install
Install Minecraft Forge, download the latest stable version of jar file for available minecraft version. Put it in minecraft's mods folder, and launch the game.

After that, Metamorph mod should be installed and will appear in Minecraft's mods menu. If Metamorph didn't appear in the mods menu, then something went wrong.

How to play
To morph into other creatures, you must to acquire a morph first. To acquire a morph, you have to kill a mob, then a ghost of a mob will appear (that's a morph), and when you'll pick it up, you'll acquire a morph.

Once you have at least one morph, you're able to transform into that morph. Use [ and ] keys for advancing through the list of morphs. There are also ' and \ keys for switching between morph variants (you'll see up and down arrows in the selection box if there are morph variants available). Use enter key for transforming into selected morph. To demorph, you scroll left until you focus character with your skin, and then press enter to demorph. Or you can press demorph key (which is . by default).

You retain your morphs even after death (although you can disable retaining of morphs after death in mod options). In creative mode, you can select any available morph via Creative Morph Menu which can be opened by pressing B key in the game.

Survival Morph Menu can also be focused, for managing purposes, by pressing N key (default). There you can favorite, remove and filter morphs by favorites. You use the same keys to navigate morphs ([, ], ' and \).

About morphs
Every morph you equip or apply grant you different look, size, and health capacity. Except those properties, every morph also has special abilities, attack and action.

Abilities give special properties to morphs. Chicken morph will slowly fall and get no fall damage. Spider and CaveSpider morphs will be able to climb on the wall. Bat morph will be able to fly and has a night vision.

Attack is an effect which is applied onto attacked entity. For example, if you hit some entity while being in CaveSpider morph, your target will gain poison potion effect. If you'll hit an entity while being in VillagerGolem morph, you'll throw your target high in the air.

Action is a special ability that is triggered by action key (which is V by default). Examples: in Rabbit morph, you'll jump high; in Creeper morph, you'll explode like a creeper, and so on.

Metamorph 1.1.1 (quick patch) : 02/23/2017 5:52:43 am2/23/17

This patch fixes 1.11.2 problem with morphs not getting their abilities. This was caused by change in how names were changed in Minecraft 1.11. This patch also adds a command for morphing, adds abilities for ender dragon and morph blacklist for naughty morphs.

  • Added fire breathing ability for ender dragon
  • Added entity blacklist (blacklist.json in config folder)

A big update of Metamorph mod. This update introduces third-party morph support, improved GUIs and public API. A lot of code was rewritten, and there close to no morphs which use custom models (as in the first version).

This is just awesome. I dont know how you made it, but the boss mechanics in other mods actually work! Continue like this and you will arrive so far. =) And is there any way to change what morphs enemies will attack? Because mobs still attack some mod morphs and the bat morph.

I don't know either, I just emulate mobs behavior based on it's update code, and I guess it works by itself pretty good.

I will make bat morph not attackable for hostile morphs, but I cannot make it for mobs from other mods that aren't derived from EntityMob class (basically this is a class from which most of hostile mobs are derived from). You can, however, make your morphs which you use/want hostile by modifying morphs.json file in config directory. See Wiki for more information :)

McHorseI, I love you mod, but it would be cool to have these things in the mod:
-An action for all mobs (Silverfish could hide in stoneblocks, Sheep can eat the grass, Cow can make a sound, chicken can maybe lay an egg or something like that, Irongolem could make a slam...) Maybe you could make a button that would turn on these kind of abbilities or something. Would be cool ;) (If you need Ideas I have tons of them)
-Coop with another mod like Thaumcraft if possible (and if it isn't to hard ;) )
-Some details like: 1. A abbility list. What can this mob do? 2.Irongolems do not tkae falldamage, Villager are scared of Zombies and should run away, Undead can be healed by an instand damage potion.

These are just some things that I would like to see in the mod. I know you are a busy man and working on something that might be more important but could you have the time to read some posts or make a poal if this or that feature should be added? Would be great! Hey, sorry for a quite late reply, I completely forgot to reply on this comment, sorry -_-

It takes some time to make all these actions, and sometimes this is quite boring. To be honest, I don't really want to work on Metamorph as a survival mod, you see I'm not Minecraft player, I make mods to make videos, and Metamorph is my mod which powers Blockbuster mod (my other mod) with custom models and morphs.

I can't work on 3 mods simultaneously, if there was someone who could help me with my mods, I would be more motivated to fix things and create new features. There so many issues with other mods that it makes me very discouraged.

Well, because Guardians looks like fishes, and AFAIK fishes are suffocating on the air (am I right?).
It's not meant to be a sarcastic comment. I just explained why I added this ability to Guardian (because Guardian is a fish, IMO).

OK, I just thought that the morphs would have abilities like those of the mob for a more authentic experience.
Can you make it so that the mobs match the resource pack that you are using? Also can you make the sheep morph dyable? Thanks!

I was somewhat disapointed when I realized you could become the ender dragon, only to be let down by the lack of ability to fly, breath fire, have 200 health, noclip/destroy every non-end block, etc.

I am playing on 1.11.2 with your mod added... bats do not fly, and chickens fall from great heights and die. Other than that...it looks great...
I am having the same issue. I really wanted to fly with the bat and teleport with enderman because they are my favorite but I cant in survival. I switched to creative and used that menu to pick enderman, and then teleport worked. I could also switch back to survival and teleport as long as I was still using the morph from the creative menu. However the second I used the survival menu to pick the enderman it stopped working again.

I also have another issue where I cant acquire cave spiders or skeleton horses. So this made me think I couldn't get variants but I got mini zombie so Idk what that is all about.

Im also on 1.11.2 btw.

They changed how mobs names are stored, thus resulting into big change in names between 1.10 and 1.11.

Have you updated from 1.10.2? If so, there are some problems with switching from 1.10.2 to 1.11.2. Or wait... could you confirm if the chicken gliding working if you will morph into chicken from creative morph menu?

Hey, I'm back again with another suggestion/question; Is there perhaps a way to ban or disable a certain morph server-wide? One of my players used diamond spikes from extra utilities which enable player drops from killed entities and this seems to have registered as a player and this caused hundreds of morphs to spawn. By the time we realised I blacklisted the diamond spikes so that no one else can cause this issue and we got rid of all of the morphs. Every so often though, it seems that the morphs re-appear and increase in numbers over time. The only effective way I've found is to worldedit all the blocks beneath so that they fall to the void.

Hey there! I think this issue (mob grinders drop lots of ghosts like Draconic Evolution) was resolved in the latest update, see files at CurseForge. I haven't managed to build Metamorph for 1.11.2 yet, though. I still need some time to update other Metamorph mod pages :D

If it won't be resolved, I can add a mod option for immediate acquire of morphs.

Ah! I was keeping an eye on the PMC page for updates, didn't know there was a CurseForge haha, definitely going to try that out and see how it goes, I'll update in a couple of days!
A really good mod, I especially like how if the mob you are playing as is 1 block tall, you can fit into 1 block spaces! A few suggestions though, maybe the ocelot could be immune to fall damage like real ocelots? And the ocelot you morph into is noticeably faster while walking than regular ocelots...however the sprint speed seems to be spot on!

Regarding about what you said, I do in fact agree that coding the laser beam ability is hard, I am not going to convince you to add it.
It was just a suggestion anyway.

Oh and Thanks for working hard, I really appreciate your hard work you're doing to make us happy!

I am at least hoping for the idea of 'neutral mobs' to be accepted.

And I believe you need to add the ability to morph to a snowman (mob of course) with it's own special ability to shoot snowballs.
It could have been fun if you would add the idea!

About ocelots, It should have speed II and have 10 hearts but with a softer skin.
What I basically mean is that , you will take more damage than a normal player would.

Edit: I just realised that snowman is already added, but let's hope that we can shoot snowballs and whenever you walk, snow would appear.

Hello there!

Yes, you're right Snowman morph is already added, and in fact, it already has snow walking ability and it can shoot snowballs :D

About neutral mobs, I can't make all neutral mobs go unhostile to hostile, because some mobs who are neutral mobs don't derive from one class. I added animals to hostile type, though.

Ocelots are already faster than players (they have speed of 0.15 while players have 0.1, not sure what are the units), but I don't know how to make player take more damage, I could apply some potion effect whether player in ocelot morph.

By the way, would you like to beta-test next release? :)
I made a post on PMC's forum, Minecraft forum and tweeted about it on Twitter. Nobody seemed to reply. I would be happy if you could test next release against bugs and crashes (I'm very bad at testing, some bugs are pass my eyes).

There's a 1.11 build, but I'm unsure if it's works with 1.11.2. You can try it out, and let us know if it's works :)
But, it seems that 1.11.2 forge is currently in early stages, so it might be unstable for now.

I would like to give you some feedback and of course some ideas.

I would like to start by saying that the mod you've made is perfect, and I absolutely loved it.

Regarding your abilities in your mod, I would say that they are great but I have a few constructive criticism

For Example:

The Guardian: The Guardian is a pretty great mob in my opinion. And I realise that you gave the morph the abilities, to swim , to breath underwater, But I would also like to say that you should add 1 ability that you have missed. It's called Laserbeam. If you would do that The mod would have shined.

The Squid: The Squid is perfect mob, and it's neutral. And of course same as "The Guardian" you gave the morph the abilities. But I realised that when you're a squid and you go out of the water, You don't start drowning or something. Maybe fixing that would have been such a great idea, and you should lower the speed of the Squid, We just can't get control over it.

I would like to also point out that when you're a (Sheep,Cow) or any neutral mob, you do get attacked.

I am not irritated about it, but I think it would have been great.

About Guardian, yes, my friend have acknowledged of that, but I forgot and, to be honest, I haven't played Minecraft beyond building my base, so I'm little acknowledged of some Minecraft features. Thanks for reminding me, though. I'll add this ability in the next update.

I agree that swimming ability is not very mobile, I'll rework swimming ability too.

Good point about neutral mobs :D

Status update. I couldn't implement laser ability, because it's too hard, and I also run out of energy while doing this update. I think this laser ability would be quite OP, due to the fact that you could auto target entity and simply wait for it to die (If I got correctly how does it works).

I think update will be ready on the next week. I finished almost everything, everything works fine. I'll polish some things and it would be ready :)

Well, it's will came out as soon as I finish working on it. Currently I have lots of issues which I have to fix, but the basic mob morph is already works (thanks to tips from iChun). Plus some new suggestions may be added in the future.

I moved this update for too long. I hope to finish this update in following 4 days, but I don't promise anything. Unexpected things may arise.

Can't wait until mod support is added ^^ Also I had a suggestion? Whenever any of the players on my server are morphed as a hostile mob, the console gets flooded with:
"[mchorse.metamorph.api.morph.MorphHandler:onLivingSetAttackTarget:167]: Reseting attacker for EntityPlayerMP['Username'/2069, l='world', x=-2457.72, y=61.10, z=-1775.39]"
While I know this is because they are near hostile mobs and this is telling them not to attack them on sight, is there a way to disable this message?

Yes, I think it's a debug message which I forgot to remove. The problem that I can't fix it, because I forgot to setup my development in another branch, thus disallowing me to do patches while having an ability to continue the development of the mod. So... you'll have to wait for the next release :(

Although I might make a patch, but only when I'll finish working on what I'm currently working on (tomorrow or later). Nice server, by the way, if I'll have time I might join in to play :D

Could you change "MetaMorph" to "Metamorph"? It's quite annoying when the name of my mods are getting distorted. Sorry for being pricky :D

I legit think you should make it to wear you can morph into creatures from other mods too. Not rushing, just giving you the idea because I doubt the old morph mod is going to be updated anymore.

Well, iChun announced some time ago that he's working on updates for his mods, including upgrading Morph to 1.10.2. His problem, however, is the lack of time. Btw, I'm not trying to compete with iChun. I'm working on this mod to power morphing functionality for my machinima maker mod called Blockbuster. It's a very crucial feature to have in Blockbuster, so integration (between Metamorph and Blockbuster) is coming up very soon :)
Nice Mod :) This mod look's like it deserves a diamond.
I also have a question, Will other hostile mobs kill you?

Thanks, nope, they won't if you in hostile mob's morph (unless you attack it first). Thanks, I'm going start working on another update tomorrow, which will add custom mobs' morph support :)

When finally viewing a submission that looks professional without much formatting. You made the post look like it was put effort into by using quality pictures and writing. The mod is also wonderful.
