[​En] Battleship HMS Vanguard was the last and largest of Britain's battleships. She was commissioned in 1946. Her design evolved from of the King George V class and incorporated much of the fully developed design for the two battleships, Lion and Temeraire, that were laid down in 1939 but never completed. At 813ft length overall and 42,300 tons, she was the last battleship to be built for the Royal Navy and the only ship of her class. She was built during the Second World War and incorporated existing twin 15in mountings, and was part of the Royal Navy s response to the combined and increasing number of German and Japanese battleships in the early 1940s. The technology evolving rapidly, it was quickly obsolete and she was eventualy broken up at Faslane in 1960.



[​Fr]Le cuirassé HMS Vanguard était le dernier et le plus grand des cuirassés britanniques. Il a été commandée en 1946. Sa conception a évolué à partir de la classe du King George V et a incorporé une grande partie de la conception entièrement développée pour les deux cuirassés, Lion et Temeraire, qui ont été mis sur cale en 1939 mais jamais achevés. Avec une longueur totale de 246 metres et 42300 tonnes, c'est le dernier cuirassé construit pour la Royal Navy et le seul navire de sa classe. Il a été construit pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et a incorporé des canons de 15 pouces existants, et a fait partie de la réponse de la Royal Navy au nombre croissant de cuirassés allemands et japonais au début des années 1940. La technologie évoluant rapidement, il devient rapidement obsolète et est est finalement démantelée à Faslane en 1960.
