The Roosevelt Island (formerly Blackwell's Island) Smallpox Hospital was built in 1856 by architect James Renwick Jr. to serve as an isolation hospital for smallpox cases. The island was used to house and cure the sick so their illnesses would not spread to New York City. By the 1950's, the building was abandoned and it slowly decayed to ruin. The building still exists on the island as a ruin and is a popular tourist attraction.

Little known fact: the scene in Spiderman (1) where he fights the Green Goblin at the end was filmed inside the Smallpox Hospital ruin. ;-)

I built the building as it originally appeared in 1856, without the 1904 wings added on, and a second version with the wings. I did not build the interiors yet.
