The Citadel of Samchester is a Vaguely Medieval™ walled city. Realism was not a concern, so I went with a much more relaxed approach. I did no research, no planning, and no design iterations. Felt like a classical violinist doing jazz... :- )
Of course, I could not resist the lure of history entirely. The oversized keep is borrowed from castles in Central Europe, like Karlštejn and Bojnice; the covered walkways tip their hat to Viollet-le-Duc's work at Carcassonne; and the clock tower is a scaled-down interpretation of the Dom Tower in Utrecht, the Netherlands. None of them have any business in a medieval citadel, but cheaping out on R&D made this project a lot quicker than usual.
The inside of the walls is deliberately empty to leave room for other builds.
