This is going to be the first in a series of custom made terrain maps I plan on creating. The idea came to me after doing a lot of terraforming to my pit mine project and having lots of fun with it.


Most of my other terrain editing had been almost exclusively done thru the worldedit mod which can be nice for small things but not so good at trying to change or generate large sections. For this project I chose to use the worldpainter app to create the base section of land then did fine editing with worldedit.


My only initial goal for this map was to create a highly elevated land area with lots of very deep canyons cutting thru the whole land. After getting it the way I wanted it to look I started to play with the worldpainter cavern tool which is how I ended up adding those in. 


The average elevation of the regular land is about 110 with most of the canyons reaching down to around the mid 30s level, so they are all pretty deep. Along with the deep canyons I maxed the cavern setting in worldpainter so there are huge caves and caverns that cut in and out of the land. I also added small house for the spawn area and some rope bridges to get around easier


I know a few more terrain maps I'd like to make but am welcoming all ideas, suggestions or requests anyone might have. Let me know what cool terrain you would like to see!

-Fixed some areas around a few of the caves.
-Added a larger house on the other side of the map.
-Added in a small hidden house inside the cave system.
-Added in a few new pictures.
-Updated both files.

If you want any sugestions then please, oh please, make a huge jungle adventure/survival (or only survival) map. I'm searching and searching for some decent jungle adventure/survival and there's nothing at all there. With your skills i would be a hit! Make an epic jungle with rivers, caverns, tunels, ruins of some old civilisation or natives, hills cover with trees etc. and put a lot of hidden treasures, ores, monster spawners etc. in it! CAN'T WAIT FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT! :)

Try lowering your view distance down a bit before loading it. I'm not sure if it's because of all the caves or what but for some reason I was having the same problems with the view distance set to far, changing it to normal pretty much fixed it for me. Hope that helps.

Maybe a map with a giant volcano in the middle? and canyons with lava. The ground should be made of stone and cobble.

Hi, I was wondering if you could make me a map using this technology? What i need is a deep canyon similar to this, but not as deep, at the top i need a small ledge then high vertical mountains rising up, at the bottom of the canyon there needs to be water to, like a river, in the center of the river there needs to be a medium sized island, at one end of the river a waterfall would be great. I was thinking the canyon could be about 40-45 blocks deep and the mountains are about 60 high, if this is possible that would be great and I will strongly credit you for the work you have done, sorry I can't offer you money though, but Thanks Anyways

I set it to the void so it wouldn't create extra chunks while I was editing everything and forgot to change it back...you can actually get to new chunk sections if you build a bridge 256 blocks out.

I would LOVE to play this, but when I try to implant the file into the same folder as my server it just generates a brand new world and labels it "World" even though "Canyons" is in the folder (even when I restart the server completely). Please help.

I have no experience with how the servers are setup so I really can't help you there. I will suggest if you are having a problem with the world save that you use the schematic and import it into whatever world its loading with MCEdit.
