This map is nice.  The story seems interesting.

Only a couple of things:
1.  I would sign and title the books.  This just gives a sense of orer.  You get an idea of what the book will cover before you get into things.
2.  This is the big one.  The map feels too open.  It is far too easy to go just wherever, wander around a bit, and just stumble upon the ending without getting a good feeling of the in-between.  The first time I went through it, I literally got about three hint/clue books after entering the mansion, and one of those was the one telling me to escape.  Maybe implimenting a system of locked doors and keys with direction prompts as to where the player should go would make experiencing your entire story easier.

These are just my thoughts, though.  Take them or leave them, it's up to you.  If you do make any adjustments, however, I'll happily return to try it out again.
