Hey Everyone!
This is a 1:5 ship (or almost) made because I visited this ship some days ago in the Maritime Museum of La Rochelle and I found it pretty cool!
So about the build this is the NSM France I, NSM stand for "Navire de Surveillance Météorologique" or in english "Meteorological Surveillance Ship". This ship was comissioned in 1958 to survey a couple of strategic North Atlantic points (Kilo (45° N, 16° O), Alpha (62° N, 33° O) and Lima 52° 30′ N, 20° 00′ O, in 1975 Kilo was abandonned for the Romeo point (47° N, 17° O), a closer one) at an era where meteorogical satellites didn't existed (yet). Surveys were made from helium baloon launched from the rear flight deck, the data were analysed on board and sent to Europe. These data were used 4 hours later in Europe for the meteo. There was two french NSM ships that were part of an european organisation of the meteo with the UK and the Netherland, the France I and the France II, they replaced 3 old frigates, one of these was the Laplace that sunk near Saint-Malo because of an old german mine... Today this frigate is useless because of modern satellites, it served for a Turkish cruise line, a private owner and is now a museum in his home port, La Rochelle.
I'v decided to do a new format of dexciption with a bit more history for 2 reasons, the first one is that I like history but I prefer when I teach it and the second was becasue the Wikipedia page is only in French! Hope you'll like this new format!
