Project 1845 in a nutshell is a world first open-source map of ancient Chinese landmarks in and around Beijing City From Ming - Qing dynasties. Major projects as part of the bigger project include:
  • 1:1 scale replica of the ENTIRE Beijing Cityback in 1750
  • 1:1 scale replica of the Forbidden City back in 1750
  • 1:1 scale replica of Ming Dynasty Tombs 1368 - 1641
  • 1:1 scale replica of Summer Palace in 1911
  • 1:1 scale replica of Yuanmingyuan 1760 - 1901
This entire project is eligible to become a world record once completed at the largest 1:1 scale replica user-built building project in the entire sandbox game genre.

Please take note that almost all major landmarks on themselves are world-first 1:1 scale builds in Minecraft at least, due to complexity and lack of simple schematics.

Current Statistics During Construction:
  • 8.6%Total Completed
  • Four Years of Construction So Far
  • 180,750,823Blocks Used So Far
  • Will Contain Approximately 2,100,000,000 blocks
  • Approximately4-9 Yearsto Go
  • Over 120 Kilometersof minecart rail to travel on(75+ miles)
  • Scale:1:1 ( 1 block = 1 Cubic Meter )
  • Map Size:16,000 x 16,000 Blocks (256 square kilometers)
  • Anniversary of Groundbreaking:17 July 2011
  • Amount of Buildings:~360-420,000
Current Project Records:
  • Largest Urban Minecraft Project
  • Largest 1:1 scale Replica
  • 5th LargestMinecraft Project Ever
  • Most "Diamonds" for any PMC submission in any category
There is more to the project than just building a Minecraft map. We are also porting it into MinecraftEDU to teach people about history, language and geography. Also the project is helping promote the original rare map and to help in its restoration process so more people can enjoy this unique piece of history which has been hidden from the public for centuries.
We are attempting a world record with it becoming the largest single 1:1 scale replica build project in theentire sandbox game genre which has been confirmed to be a legit world record with theGuinnessworld record books. This has been confirmed by Guinness but it isn't our main aim of the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a list of questions i Regularly have to attend to, hopefully this will reduce the questions asked somwhat.
How Can I Help Build?
You cannot physically help the project directly at the moment unless you have proven your skills to Bohtauri. We are building a school to help teach people how to build for the project, once that is done we will start taking more volunteers more frequently.

Can You Check My Project?
If I checked everything or went to visit everything players asked, Project 1845 will never be completed, please dont be offended if I say no.

Who Runs Project 1845?
Bohtauriis founder, lead architect and has single handedly built a majority of the project

Hang On, This Isnt Legit?
The Forbidden City,Centerpieceof Project 1845, containing 4.2 Million blocks was built 100% legit and was the slowest time of construction. The rest of the project will contain 2.096 Billion Blocks and will be spawned blocks. A minority of it will be worldedited but over 600,000 buildings will be unique making worldedit for a large majority of the entire project impossible to use. I have never claimed the project is done 100% legit and here is why:

If we did the ENTIRE project 1845 100% legit then we will need 15 users working on the project 40 hours a week EACH for 7 days a week for 95 years. Now, do you call spawned blocks cheating? no, making this legit will take over a century. This would be literally condemningpeople to work more than an entire lifetime to build it legit, call spawned items cheating on the project and this is why I will ban you, I don't have patience anymore for sh*tstirring.

"1845" is in the 19th Century
"1845" in "project 1845" has nothing to do with a year. Its main section, Beijing City is based off a map dated to 1750 which is the 18th century.

and yes, project 1845 is composed of at least 4independentprojects dating from 1600 - 1945.

Plugins
Worldguard, Worldedit (client and server side), Zombe modpack. Short and sweet :)

Your Project is Too Big, It Keeps Crashing my Minecraft!
This isnot a problem caused by Project 1845. If you are not using 64-bit java 7 then your minecraft is prone to crash more when playing any map.Reduce your view distanceand/or increase your RAM allowance to java.(google has how-to's for this)

Yes, three years have passed. On the 17th July 2011 Bohtauri has started Project 1845 and the big plan that minecraft is only a small peice of that big puzzle. A big shout out to the supporters of todays Livestream, first one in 6 months!! Its been great to see the community still behind and supporting this great resource for education.

Update #128 : 03/19/2014 2:30:03 am3/19/14

2 Months of no updates heh?

Time to let everyone know whats been happening.
  • New Brand Name: We will be shifting away from calling this Project 1845, this name has served us well but it has come to the point of not representing the big plan. This project is a replica of Beijing City in 1751 AD which is part of the Digital Historian Project. But dont worry, thew
  • New Images: Added many new simple shader renders of major completed sites. More coming soon.
  • Port Number Update: The IP address is now just project1845.net no port numbers. Please note too that this project is not a standalone server, it is a project inside the Earthrealm server community.
  • Expanded Website: lots of things I can say here. New design layout, new content, regular blog posts to keep up to date and a store being constructed to buy merchandise if you want to support us
  • Things Built: We have gone from 5.0% to 6.2% in the past 2 months which is a stunning achievment, this is more than 12 million blocks placed!!

Also, Things Being Worked On:

How in the WORLD would building all of this legit take a centary? Seriously. Building something like this would not take a centary. You've already built a lot, so building it would definatly not take a centry dude. Cool build other wise.

So, as you can tell by the length of time it would take to make it in a "traditional" sense, even with creative mode. It would take far too long, and we have not only this Beijing model but other cities in progress, we would rather fill our time to be as productive as possible than to make someone else feel better that were using a slower way of building when our educational goals are beyond the scope of Minecraft.

your welcome to calculate this, heres what you need to know. so every building, with interiors will take 7 - 20 minutes each. one garden is in the middle of about 4 buildings, There are over 850,000 different buildings, containing also over 520 kilometers of roading to build (with very little straight lines) there is over 22 square kilometers of farmland and hinterland topology that needs building that cant be automated.

And one person working full-time (40 hours a week) can only work 1,920 hours a year, thats only ~5,700 buildings built a year, just one person building at that constant rate (which is never constant) would take 149 years, and thats just for the rough estimate for the number of buildings required, let alone the rest of the content.
Edit Reply Delete
Oh ok. I wasn't trying to offend you or anything with the question, I was just baffeled at how this would take a century. Very cool build.

"If we did the ENTIRE project 1845 100% legit then we will need 15 users working on the project 40 hours a week EACH for 7 days a week for 95 years."

Well, since you're trying to get world record, having, like, 50 workers for 30 years doesn't sound unreasonable. Mods = cheating.

Bro just leave. You can't even build anything like this so stop saying it is cheating. If you can build something like this and not using mods then come back with proof and tell us

thats the same logic saying it cheating travelling between cities if you can walk one step in front of another. If you think a project that utilises tools in mods that will still take over 200,000 work hours then you need to rethink what social responsibility is.

Why is the project called "Project 1845" if the project has nothing to do with the year?

It's a cool project that you're doing the entirety of the map, but I think it was a mistake to sacrifice detail for scale. It looks cool from far away but when you're up close, all the flat walls and basic colors make it look almost amateur-ish :/

I very much agree with this. It's too simplistic and sacrificing that much detail just to have a big build is quite amateurish. Builds should have a 50/50 ratio of size and detail, sometimes less, sometimes more depending but detail regardless. Just because it's 1:1 doesn't mean it has to be as detailed as a minecraft beta build. Only reason it has this many diamonds is because they're attempting a world record. If it were not a world record, I doubt it would get more than maybe 1k.

Historical accuracy and 1:1 scale is paramount. Since we will need that groundwork for when the models are taken out of Minecraft and put into their own standalone software.
Edit Reply Delete
I'ts gigantic or long but it is 5%.

LOL

Nice Job by the way, I like this map
