I definitely agree, foliage will eventually be added, but for the time being I am focusing on the settlement itself. Currently I am experimenting with a few mods that add rocks and convincing bushes that cross over to vanilla mode. After a state has been completed, everything from cactus, trees, bushes and shrubs will be added between settlements :) 
These features will be added accurately in the region of the map they appear in.

only complaint is that it depends on the texture pack. hay for example could just been normal yellow wool.

I advertise my projects so people have the opportunity to see my creations. I feel that with the format of Planet Minecraft, not many people get to witness amazing projects, that otherwise vanish after an hour. I do not spam, I only leave 1 comment on a few popular projects so people can see what else is out there, not just in the lime light. I encourage you and anyone else to do the same, if you feel that your creation is worth seeing, which I do!

looks pretty cool, i would say to add some kind of road in, whether it's dirt or some spattering of cobble, as it kind of looks like the buildings have been plonked down in the desert like a schematic building bundle, a road would make it feel like a proper town

I wound have added roads if it were my own thing, but the reason it doesn't have path ways is because the actaul game doesn't feature them, its just a near accurate depiction of Armadillo on flat desert.
