Corellian Engineering Corporation CG-44MB Corvette
Following the formation of the Restored Republic in 35 ABY it was decided that a new capable fleet of warships would need to be built to quickly replace the large number of overworked and under-capable civilian ships that at the time made up most of the fighting force of the Republic.
Three designs were submitted by CEC, each a upgraded version of the civilian CR-43A that was commonly used among the civilian fleet. The CG-44LB, CG-44MB, and CG-44HB all had variations on their weapons complements ranging from a focus on light anti fighter weapons with the LB model to heavier capital grade armament on the HB. In the end the newly formed Republic Naval Council chose the multi role MB model to be the Restored Republic’s first corvette.
While far from luxurious the CG-44 proved reliable in battle against the remnant First Order and bands of pirates in the outer rim. It’s varied armament meant that it was able to effectively support fighter squadrons or take on capital ships much larger than itself. The corvette was often paired with a fighter squadron of either T-95B X-Wing space superiority fighters or SF/I-05 T-Wing interceptors, though it lacked the ability to dock with or resupply its fighter escort.
The CG-44 like it’s older cousin the CR-90 was able to land on the surface of a planet for repairs or to deploy troops, further increasing its mission profile. Because of this ability a number of CG-44’s were modified for use by the Sentinel Protectors into the CG-44F for use on special missions.
