The facade of San Agustin Church and its convent (Manila)
San Agustin Church is the oldest stone church in the Philippines constructed in 1607 and initiated by Augustinian friars. Its architectural design was inspired by the Earthquake Baroque style with a strong stone foundation. The structure was spared from many natural phenomena and bombings of WWII. In 1993, the church was enlisted as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, and one of the four Baroque structures in the Philippines together with three other churches in Paoay, Ilocos Norte; Sta Maria, Ilocos Sur; and Miagao, Iloilo. The church features retablos or places where the Saints are displayed, the 3D frescoes that give an optical illusion to the spectators, and a museum that shows saved documents, artifacts, and other historical objects that were collected by the church.
