Hey guys!
After having struggle during way too much time, I finally managed to complete my new project! And yeah, I took a break.
Here is my reproduction of the Zwinger, a german palace situated in Dresden. As always, I did it all by myself. These projects are quite personnal, that is why nobody helped me.
Main description:
The Zwinger palace was built between 1711 and 1722 by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, an architect. The style used to make it is what we call "Rococo", an evolution of the baroque architecture. It involves domes, colonnades, light and shapes. Statues are also quite common especially in the Zwinger. Saxony's kings were used to chill in that place. Today, this monument serves as a museum where you can find famous paintings and old weapons.
But sadly, in 1945, during the second World War, the Zwinger got severly damaged. Both Uk and US air forces striked the city of Dresden with over 3'900 tons of explosive and lots of napalm. This attack was not very justified judging by the amount of explosives dropped by the bombers. It was more of a personnal revenge from the United Kingdom and the United States. Their objective was to detroy what was left of the germans's way of thinking and make them give up.
The Zwinger even though was the first monument to be restored after the War.
So what I did is some sort of an homage to this beautiful palace that was also victim of War atrocities just like millions of people.
Precisions:
There is no interior.
For me, reproducing the content of a museum with such proportions would just look weird. And also take ages and I do not think it is worth the time. So please do not complain about that, this is how I work.
The all structure is not a replica but repsect the general shape of the palace, as it is today. The gardens especially changed a bit since 1722.
Personnal thoughts:
I consider this project being small. Yes, I do. I am saying that because of how symmetric it is.
Symmetry is great because it balances shapes. In real life, it is used a lot in today buildinds.
But in Minecraft, it is a bit different. Someone had to invent MCEdit, which reduces considerably the time you spend building stuff. In other words, I used the copy-paste a few times... And this palace, as you can see, has many identical walls.
Even though, I did a lot by hand because using MCEdit is sometimes dangerous or hard to use.
But I am very happy about how it turned out. At first, I was scared of the round shapes and the statues. But with a bit of imagination, I was able to have fun doing that. I was looking for something different with more colors and the Zwinger showed up in Google image. The roofs were fascinating because of their shape and their color.
Here is the scale of the palace: 646x433x90
There are approximately: 700'000 blocks
It took: Between 2 and 3 months
Helpers: None
