General description
The M12 Force Application Vehicle, more commonly known as the Warthog, or simply the Hog, is a United Nations Space Command ground vehicle.
The M12 FAV Warthog is the UNSC's primary ground vehicle, used for its scouting and reconnaissance capacity, or as an integral part of a mechanized infantry unit; the M12 has been a part of the UNSC's armored vehicle fleet for fifty years, and is the most recognizable vehicle in their arsenal. It is a highly mobile, all-wheel-drive, all-wheel-steering, ICE-powered (Internal combustion engine) vehicle equipped with a continuously-variable transmission.
The M12 is a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle capable of going over any obstacle without difficulty; under the hood the M12's power is generated by a forward-housed low-profile liquid-cooled hydrogen-injected ICE I/C plant, coupled with an infinitely variable transmission (IVT). According to a marine's quote, it has a 36-inch ground clearance, however if you look at it ingame, it appears to be more about a foot tall. However it could mean that is the massive expansion size as when in mid-air, the suspension travels downward. The hydrogen fuel is burned at very high temperature with a synthetic carbon/silicon catalyst to achieve even better fuel consumption. This hydrogen engine is the standard among all UNSC ground based vehicles, replacing fossil fuel-based engines some 400 years ago.
The M12 features a Graf/Hauptman Solar/Saline Actuator, and will convert up to twelve liters of fresh, brackish or salt water into hydrogen on the fly, detritus is compacted on board, this allows the Warthog to travel 790 kilometers or 490 miles before it needs to be refueled. Inexperienced drivers can find the M12 to be a huge and unwieldy vehicle, but it is actually very fast and highly maneuverable in the hands of a skilled driver. With proper application of the hand, or "e-brake" the M12 can actually turn on a dime. Massive disc brakes and its automatic braking systems allow the vehicle to come to a near immediate, but controlled stop should the driver be ejected, or choose to leave the vehicle. The Warthog's tires have moved away from previous inert-gas pocket inflation with equally burst-proof single unit nanotube skeletons. They provide the buoyancy and ride of gas-pocket tires, but are almost indestructible. The relatively massive tires are a joint project between Michelin-Vance and AMG.
The M12's design places it into the jeep family of vehicles; it has no doors and has a total seating of two or three. The M12's description as a reconnaissance vehicle is, at best, an understatement; the M12 has both offensive and defensive capabilities. The M12 can be configured to become a troop carrier, armament carrier, ambulance, reconnaissance vehicle, or communications vehicle. All M12-based vehicles are designed to travel both on and off-road, in all weather conditions.

Flatbed Warthog

Description
The Flatbed Warthog is similar to the other Warthog variants, however, the bay at the rear of the vehicle is clear of any seating or armaments. This allows extra space for cargo transport.
It is likely that it is very similar in appearance to the civilian model of the Warthog. It is assumed that the Flatbed Warthog appears in Halo Wars as a non-upgraded Warthog, although it is not directly called the Flatbed Warthog.
The Flatbed Warthog was used by Avery Johnson and the militia forces on Harvest. It was also used in an operation to transport captured nuclear warheads.The
Flatbead Warthog can be seen again aboard the UNSC Infinity six months after the First Battle of Requiem carrying troops and supplies around the ship.

The M831 Troop Transport, abbreviated as M831 TTand commonly known as the Troop 'Hog, is a United Nations Space Command ground transport vehicle based off the chassis of the M12 Light Reconnaissance Vehicle.
The M831 is first and foremost a transport used to quickly ferry troops from one location to another. While obviously an important piece of UNSC field equipment, the M831 is rarely committed to combat because of its equally obvious lack of weaponry, with the rear bed of the vehicle featuring an expanded seating compartment. In its most common and optimal configuration the M831 has a transport capacity of four passengers, though with others it is possible to seat up to ten.
While uncommon in this role, the M831 can be used for offensive purposes. When properly armed the vehicle's crew and passengers can cover nearly all angles of fire at a given time, giving it a type of lethality not seen in other Warthog variants.

It is identical to the M12 FAV except that it features a mounted M41 Light Anti-Aircraft Gun or M46 Light Anti-Aircraft Gun.

The M12R Light Anti-Aircraft Vehicle, abbreviated asM12R LAAV and commonly referred to as the Rocket Warthog, or Rocket 'Hog, is a UNSC ground vehicle. It is a variant of the M12 Force Application Vehicle and features a mounted M79 Multiple Launch Rocket System.
The M12R LAAV is designed to quickly and efficiently defeat lightly armored vehicles such as Type-48 LAGC "Revenant"and Type-32 RAV "Ghost". The Rocket 'Hog is almost exactly the same in every detail to the standard M12 "Warthog" FAV except that it is equipped with a mounted M79 MLRS which fires six 65mm rockets per volley every two to three seconds. Its rockets are capable of locking onto aircraft only. One drawback is that once you start firing you cannot stop until the rockets are all shot which can lead to friendly fire and flipping over from unwanted rockets.

The M12G1 Light Anti-Armor Vehicle (M12G1 LAAV), commonly known as the Gauss Warthog, is a variant of the UNSC M12 Force Application Vehicle that features a mounted M68 ALIM Gauss Cannon. It is designed to quickly defeat lightly-armored vehicles such as Type-25 RAV Choppers and Type-32 RAV Ghosts. The M68 Gauss Cannon fires 25mm hypersonic speed projectiles by asynchronous magnetic acceleration in the base of the cannon and takes about a half a second to recharge between cannon shots.
