Updated version of this project:  http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/ravenhold-skyrim-inspired-holdcity-wip/

This castle is inspired by the style of buildings from Skyrim. I got a lot of inspiration from Skyrim and built my idea of a Skyrim castle. This would be the house of the High King or Jarl and the capital of the hold and province. Basically this is my idea of a building that I would imagine in Skyrim/The Elder Scrolls, and I built it using all of my knowledge of the Nordic architecture found in Skyrim.

It is basically a mixture of styles based on my observations of Dragon's Reach, The Palace of the Kings, Riften, and Solitude from Skyrim.

I built this using the Conquest 1.8 Resource pack, which also requires Optifine 1.8, and I strongly recommend that you use these two to view this build. Also, no shaders are used in the screenshots, it is just the awesomeness of the Conquest resource pack.

I built this without using World Edit or any mods of any kind. The world is also a vanilla world. I got really lucky and got this amazing world with a huge mountain in the middle surrounded by a river and mega taiga and taiga biomes. When I first loaded this world I knew it was the perfect world for a Skyrim-themed build.

I have plans to eventually build an entire Skyrim-themed city/town around the castle. I will either update this project or post a new one when that is done.

Also the file is named: 1_8 Kevin 9_17_14 because that is what I named the world when I first created it way back in September. I built the actual castle more recently as of this month.

Please give me credit along with a link back to this page if you use and/or modify this in any way.

Man, amazing. I do wonder though, can I view this in the 1.7.10 version, without problems with, for instance, blocks you've used that don't exist in 1.7.10? I have something in mind...

Thank you.

No, this would not work in any version prior to 1.8 because literally like 90% of the foundation of the castle is made of polished andesite and diorite blocks, which only exists in 1.8. Therefore a sizeable amount of the build would disappear if loaded with any version prior to 1.8. I'm also using a lot of the 1.8 doors and probably many other 1.8 blocks too. Also, if you use or modify this I would really appreciate some credit with a link back to this page.

Lovely project, however, Vikings never built castles, and much less anything like this. The viking culture was generally primitive, and most structures would be made from wood, with perhaps a few segments of stone in the foundation. This build looks more like a 1500s german schloss or something like that.
Awesome castle tho =D

Thank you.

Yes I know that the Vikings never built castles, but what I did with this project is, I took inspiration from Skyrim, which is fantasy, and built my own idea of a Skyrim castle. Skyrim takes inspiration from real life Nordic architecture as well, such as the medieval Nordic stave churches that actually exist. That inspiration can clearly be seen in the central tower of my build, which was also inspired by Whiterun from Skyrim. In fact, the whole build is largely an inspirational mix of my observations of Dragons Reach, Palace of the Kings, Riften, and Solitude. I just named it Viking Castle because I originally didn't want to name it Skyrim Castle, but I am going to change the title now. My goal style-wise was Skyrim Nordic fantasy.  :)

Once again thank you for the compliment.
