During the apocalypse it was too dangerous to get supplies so the MST 100 was built. Powered by gold they almost never failed there missions. Cold unfeeling scavengers, they were the best of the best. But eventually there wasn't enough gold to keep them running so they were shut down. Discarded and replaced by cheaper and weaker redstone powered bots they were all but forgotten. Until one day some pirates found a MST 100, hearing of there prowess they reactivated it, taught it the ways of piracy and gave it a personality, and it called itself Rex Praedonum. But of course piracy in these times is hard and there kings die often. So eventually Rex became the king of pirates and has so far been king longer than any other in recorded history. So for him piracy isn't just a job, its the only way he can stay powered.
EDIT* forgot to mention the skin on rex is supposed to look fake because they didn't have the technology to make real looking skin
