So how the hell is this related to the apocalypse?
Good question here is the story...also you can skip to 2150 if you just want the info about the shadows instead of the full back-story of the apocalypse.
This an account of the events leading up to the demise of humanity by Robert Neville
2076-The worlds natural resources begin to run dry, The Great War begins; two super powers begin to annex the rest of the world slowly eating away at any resources their conquests gains them. Two years later only they each control with 50% of the world.
2078-Each takes up a new mantle one the Commonwealth the other the Republic. A treaty is made contracting them to share their greatest minds and technology in hope of developing something to save them.
2081-No progress has being made by the treatys research. Stockpiles of the two nations continue to fall, global rationing continues.
2082-The Commonwealth's leader falls ill, citizens learn of this and disorder ensues. Using the Commonwealth's momentary weakness the Republic launches their invasion. With their military spread thin keeping their own citizens in check the Commonwealth soon begins to fall. Rather than see his nation fall the now delirious leader of the Commonwealth launches the first nuclear warhead. The nuclear holocaust ensues.
2150-The radiation that plagued the world has little but faded, with harmful counts only remaining at the sites of multiple impacts. Survivors have banded together using the ruins of the old world to grow, they begin to send small scouting parties into the initial blast sites, major cities, storage hubs, etc. Two months pass with no contact from any team. Secondary scout parties are sent out only one survivor remains of twenty people sent. He is crazed and mad muttering about "shadows", his behaviour becoms more eratic at night as he is shackled down to prevent the harm he does to his self. In his possessions is they find one link to his crazed ramblings a crumpled Polaroid carrying the message of "don't tread in the shadows". A week later the survivor dies, post-mortems reveal abrasions ringing the neck. In the following months missing persons are reported by the hundreds.
2156-The shadows sources are never found, neither is a way to fight them. Humanity now faces its second apocalypse. I don't know if we will survive, but to the person who finds this, heed my warning and "Don't tread in the shadows".
May the lord accept me, as I take my last walk into the dark. Take note and know that I Robert Neville left this world in peace on Nonvember 16th 2156.
