iron and gold are both metals, but not even because of this they have similar textures. and yes, diamonds and emerald have differences on their textures, but they still similar with each other. I think you could do it so it still looking-like a gem, while having a more clear difference with emeralds. but whel, that's your pack afterall, so you do whatever you want with it.
