Slime Variants requires Optifine to use.

Slime Variants is a resource pack that adds 40+ variants to the vanilla Slime! There are 22 different colors that will randomly spawn, but there are also special variants that spawn if certain conditions are met. Below are all of the special variants as well as how to get them to appear:
  • Honey Slimes are a special variant that only spawns in Flower Forest and Sunflower Plains biomes.
  • Tropical Slimes are another special variant that only spawns in Jungle biomes as well as Beach, Lukewarm Ocean, Warm Ocean, and their Deep counterparts. They have an animated texture on them as well!
  • Ore Mimic Slimes will only spawn at y=40 or below. Only Stone variants will spawn at first but at y=8, Deepslate variants will start to spawn instead and eventually replace Stone variants! There are variants for each type of ore, and they will try their best to fool you! Some mimics are better than others though...
  • Icy Slimes only spawn in biomes with a temperature of 0, which includes Frozen Ocean (Deep as well), Ice Spikes, Snowy Beach, Snowy Taiga, and Snowy Plains biomes. There are two variants that are dependent on weather conditions. Normally, they spawn without a layer of snow, but will gain one if it begins snowing!
  • Cactus Slimes will spawn in biomes where cacti grow naturally. This includes Deserts, Badlands, and Eroded Badlands. Most of the time, they'll resemble a normal cactus, but rarely, a Flowered Cactus Slime will spawn instead!
        • Cloud Slimes will spawn at y=180 or higher. These extremely rare Slimes are, as their name suggests, made of the clouds that surround them at that height. Because of this, their appearance will change dynamically depending on the weather and if it's night in your world!
        • Jack o'Slimes will rarely spawn in Swamp and Dark Forest biomes at night. These Slimes will try to guide you into harm's way by luring you to them with their glowing inside. In the daytime, naturally spawning ones will disguise themselves by turning into a normal Slime variant, and at night they'll go back to normal.
The Nether Update also introduces Magma Cube variants!
                  • Soul Magma Cubes spawn in Soul Sand Valley biomes. Just like the fire in the biome, Magma Cubes have turned blue. They constantly stay on the Soul Sand and Soul Soil, and they can cause the souls from the ground to be released and trapped again inside of their bodies. If you look closely, you may be able to see some trapped souls on them.
                  • Blackstone Magma Cubes spawn in Basalt Deltas. Blackstone wasn't meant to be inhabited by a Magma Cube, but with enough effort a Magma Cube can call the block its home. Due to how hot the Cubes are, they heat up the Blackstone they live in, causing it to slightly turn red and make it more malleable. Sometimes a Magma Cube will find a piece of Gilded Blackstone to call home, causing it to become a Gilded Blackstone Magma Cube.
                    • Hyphae Magma Cubes come in two variants. The Crimson Hyphae variant spawns in Crimson Forests while the Warped Hyphae variant spawns in Warped Forests. Magma Cubes have taken advantage of the fact that these new types of wood aren't flammable and are now living inside of them! Their cores and eyes have also changed color, and they've gained an animated texture to better disguise themselves in the forests!
                    • Ancient Debris Mimic Magma Cubes spawn in all biomes between y=8 and y=22. At these depths, Magma Cubes have very rarely begun to disguise themselves as Ancient Debris. Like the Ore Mimic Slimes of the Overworld, these Ancient Debris Mimics will try to fool you into thinking they're a real piece of Ancient Debris. On closer inspection, their color is slightly off from the real thing. Look out for that before you get attacked by one while mining in the Nether!
As of the Tropical Update, naming a Slime any dye color or a special variant name will turn that Slime into that color or variant. For example, naming a red Slime "Tropical" will turn the red Slime into a Tropical Slime. This applies to all types and colors.
For retro enthusiasts, Slime Variants Classic Edition might be more your speed. Check it out here.

                      Update #11 - The Underground Update Part II : by Havokmin 12/23/2021 12:48:46 pmDec 23rd, 2021

Suprise! Just in time for the holidays, Slime Variants has been updated to now support 1.18! While this is a purely technical update and doesn't add new variants, it's needed in order to support the drastic changes to Minecraft's terrain that occured in Caves and Cliffs Part II. Introducing The Underground Update Part II!

The Underground Update Part II changes how Slime variants spawn in accordance to the game's height and biome changes:
                      • Slime Variants has been updated to 1.18.1.
                      • Stone Ore Mimic Slimes will now spawn until y=0, but starting at y=8 they'll spawn alongside Deepslate Ore Mimic Slimes.
                      • Deepslate Ore Mimic Slimes will now start spawning at y=8 alongside Stone Ore Mimic Slimes, but from y=-1 to y=-64, only they will spawn.
                      • Emerald Ore Mimic Slimes (Deepslate and Stone) will now spawn in the new mountain biomes (Meadow, Grove, Snowy Slopes, Jagged Peaks, Frozen Peaks, and Stony Peaks) alongside their usual, albeit renamed, biomes (Windswept Hills, Gravelly Windswept Hills, and Windswept Forest).
                      • Tropical Slimes will now only spawn in Beach, Lukewarm Ocean, Deep Lukewarm Ocean, Warm Ocean, Jungle, Sparse Jungle, and Bamboo Jungle biomes.
                      • Icy Slimes will now only spawn in Frozen Ocean, Ice Spikes, Snowy Beach, Snowy Plains, and Snowy Taiga biomes.
                      • Cactus Slimes will now only spawn in Desert, Badlands, and Eroded Badlands biomes.
                      • Jack o'Slimes will now only spawn in Dark Forest and Swamp biomes.
                      • Jerry will now only spawn in Jungle, Sparse Jungle, and Bamboo Jungle biomes.
While these may seem like I'm removing a bunch of biomes that these Slimes can spawn in for no reason, it's because the ones that I removed don't exist anymore in the game! These changes are to ensure that Slimes will keep spawning as they should. The negative spawn height is also much appreciated!

Slime Variants is also approaching 3,000 downloads. I know that I say this every time, but that number is surreal to me. Why do you guys like Slimes so much (lol)? Honestly, I'm not sure what kind of special thing that I'll do this time around, but I hope that you'll all enjoy it when it does come out.

Thank you so much for supporting Slime Variants for so long! If you find any bugs in this update, as always, please let me know and I'll fix them as soon as possible. If you have any suggestions for a variant that I could add, please comment it below! Enjoy the new update!

I'm running 1.16.4 and for some reason only the slimes in the swamp are spawning naturally.

Slimes spawn everywhere in Swamp biomes, but every world has certain chunks within it where Slimes can spawn naturally starting at y=40 and below. Check these chunks first to ensure that the resource pack is working properly. Slime chunks are different for every world and are based on your world's seed. If you don't know where Slime chunks are in your world and can get the seed, you can check where the Slime chunks in your world are by using an online Slime chunk finder.

If this doesn't work, please make sure you are running Optifine, as this pack only works when that is running. It does not work in Vanilla Minecraft. If you are running Optifine, also make sure that you have "Random Mobs" set to "On" under Video Settings -> Quality. This also is needed for the resource pack to work.

If "Random Mobs" is set to "On", please try using a nametag on a Slime to change it to any variant. For example, try renaming a Slime to "Red". It should become a Red Slime if everything is working correctly.

Thank you for letting me know, and please get back to me if these fixes don't work.

As far as I know, getting entities to spawn with a specific skin in structures is not possible with the current version of Optifine. That does sound like a good idea though, and I'll keep a note of it if it ever does become possible.

What if the cake slime was an Easter egg you could get with a name tag, kinda like when you name a sheep "jeb_" it turns rainbow colors?
