"I'll kill you,"
"But darling, I'm already dead."
It all started when I was walking down to the river, trying to gather a jug of water for my make-shift supper. As I was at the waters edge, I felt eyes on me. I slowly turned around, knife in hand, to see who or what was watching me. As I made the 180, all I was faced with was the darkness of the forest. I shook my head, shaming myself for getting scared at a small noise. It was probably just an animal. As I collected my drinking water I stood up and started walking back to my home on the other side of the river. As I waded through the shallow water, I heard a branch break. I looked behind me, and once again, saw nothing. I sighed, and kept walking towards home. I was almost to my tent when I heard a whisper. It said "Darling," I shook my head again for being so childish. After all I had been through, losing both my parents and my three brothers, you'd think a silly noise wouldn't bother me. But it did. It was a whisper that I heard before they got taken. The voice said 'Darling' and then they were gone. But I was still here. I sat down in my tent and zipped up all of the openings. "Darling," I heard it again. I squeezed my eyes shut, wishing I could wish away the terrible memory's. "Darling," That was the third time. I didn't want to hear it anymore so I started singing the songs I used to have memorized. As I sang the first verse, I realized that I hadn't thought about some of these songs in a long time. I tear ran down my face as I remembered my mother's favorite song - I Can't Help Falling in Love With You by Elvis Presley.
I sang the song a few times through while I prepared my dinner. I had to scavenge every morning, and the morning before the last I was able to get a deer and a few birds, so I had plenty to eat. "Darling," I heard the voice again, and I screamed. With my knife in my hand I stormed outside of my tent. That's when I saw a beautiful woman, standing outside of my tent. She had perfect, flawless skin, blood red lips, and the most gorgeous green eyes I had ever seen. I gripped my knife in my left hand and said, "Who are you."
"Darling, it's me," she said.
"I don't know you," I replied.
"Oh darling, have you forgotten?"
"Listen, I don't know you ma'am," I stuttered.
"Come to me, I can give it all back to you," she replied softly. Something about her was strange. She spoke in such a soft, soothing way, that made me want to curl up on the ground and go to sleep. No, I couldn't let myself all into a trap.
"Leave me alone," was all I could say.
"I wish I could darling, but you're mine," she whispered.
"I'll kill you," I said, gritting my teeth.
"But darling, I'm already dead," she replied softly. That's when she smiled, and I saw her sharp, jagged teeth. "Come here, darling, I need you," this time the way she talked was demonic, and raspy. "Stay away from me!" I yelled.
She took a small step towards me. "Darling, this is what's best for you," she said roughly.
As I took a step backwards, I launched my hand forward, throwing the knife at her. All it did was stick in her chest, with no sign of a wound. "Darling, I told you that you can't kill me," and then everything stopped. It all went black, and I thought this must be what death is like. And then I opened my eyes. I was laying down by the river, with my water jug in hand. I must've fallen asleep by accident. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and collected my water. As I trudged through the icy cold river water, I felt the eyes on me.
And it began again.
"But darling, I'm already dead."
