I'm not going to say that you should be asking yourself this, but you may sometimes stop and wonder, "Do people like me?" Well, here's some food for thought.
So, do people like you? Let's find out.
Well, first things first. Are you nice? You should always remember to be friendly when you start up a conversation. It's never good to just approach someone and act like a punk. People won't like you for that. If you're friendly, chances are that the other person will reciprocate.
Got that down? Good.
You want a lot of different types of people to like you, right? Okay.
Try talking to many people. Some may not be so nice, but some will. If you're in school, try conversing with people of all groups. You could also try talking with people who are alone, and possibly give them the friend they don't have. Similar to that would be people with certain disabilities. People with Asperger's, ADHD, and things like that are sometimes outcast. I, will admit to you that I have ADHD, but was not outcast because of it. I did, however, know someone who was, and we became good friends.
People of all groups can like you, and similarly, so can people of different ages.
Now, this is one that you do have to be careful about. This mostly involves friends on the internet. You of course, should never give your address, but you can still make older friends. I'll be the first to tell you that I'm a freshman, and that I have friend in their early to late 20's. I didn't even know that they were in their 20's until I asked how old they were in the Skype chatroom! Funny thing is, I found out that I really connect with a 29 year old! I'm not going to tell him where I live of course, and he of course, doesn't care. You can find friends in any age group, as long as you're careful.
Common interests.
This is a big one. This is one of the ways that you can tie things together. I made internet friends, real life friends, and older friends this way. I absolutely love Resident Evil and The Legend of Zelda, for example. This helped me to make several friends while playing video games and talking in Radio Hyrule's (internet Zelda radio) chatroom. Sometimes you may overhear someone talking about one of your interests. Go talk to them, and be polite when you introduce yourself. You may learn things about them that you never knew, and they may learn things about you. You may even make a friend for life!
Help out!
Another way to get people to like and give people a good impression of you is to help volunteer. See someone who needs help carrying something? Just politely ask if you can carry their things for them. They'll be very grateful! See someone at the register who is just short of whatever it is they need? Say they need three more dollars, and you have that. Well, maybe give them those three bucks. I mean, it couldn't hurt, right? You could also try some volunteer work. I'm a Catholic, and altar serve at mass on Sundays, as well as other masses. Volunteering is a great way to give your community a good impression of you.
Mind your P's and Q's!
Whenever someone else helps you, make sure to be polite, and say "thank you". If you ask for something, make sure to say "please". Likewise, when someone eles says "thank you", you can say "you're welcome".
Be caring!
This mostly means visiting and sending Get Well cards to the sick people in your life, remembering birthdays and anniverseries, and sending gifts on thos gift-giving occasions. If you can't send gifts, a homemade card is sure to make the recipient feel warm and fuzzy.
Charisma and charm.
If you can, try to be charismatic and charming. Sometimes, when you're either of these things, people like you, and they just can't figure out why. That's not such a bad thing, though. People will like your spunk and moxie (gee, thanks, grandpa).
I hope this helps. Go get 'em!
