Prologue:
Good day to you, PMC. It is I, PukedOutKiwi. This will be the
first of a (possibly) long running series, where I will list my opinion on what
to do on a certain Minecraft gametype/scenario. The theme for this series will
be "Factions," so I do hope you have an enjoyable read on the
subject. I will also present 2 angles to approaching the server, one being the
"Peaceful Approach," and one being the "Aggressive
Approach." Both approaches will work, but will yield different results. It's
up to you as the player to decide which path to take.

The Peaceful Approach:
This approach will result in a long, tedious road to eventual server
domination, but will result with you gaining many allies, and few enemies. In
my opinion, the easier path, but the longer path.

The Aggressive Approach:
This approach will be much shorter, but will leave lingering problems around to
be solved, along with taking many gambits along the way. You will have many
enemies, people will hate you, but if done correctly, will give you server
dominance as well. Be warned though, the hate you receive may spread from just
in the server, but this will rarely happen.

Step 1: Observe Your Surroundings
When you join whatever faction server you have joined, chances are you will
probably start with some starter kit of some sort. This starter kit is not a
huge deciding factor, but it is a bit of help at the beginning of your journey.
You will also want to take into account the spawn that is presented, along with
the commands the average player can do. Check for warp commands, explore spawn
a bit, and look at how many players frequent the server at that time,
so that you get a real feel for what the spawn is. If there are more then 100+
players on, you might have a tough time getting through the first day using the
Peaceful Approach, but you will have an easier time with the Aggressive
Approach. If there are less than 100 players online, it will be easier on the
first day for the Peaceful Approach, and harder on the first day for the
Aggressive Approach.

Step 2: Head Outside the Spawn
Get ready to head to the wild or wherever you get out of spawn. This is the
time where the approaches I said before come in to play:

The Peaceful Approach:
What you want to do now is store all the items you have in an Ender Chest. This
will prevent the possibility of being killed when running out into the wild.
Even if the server has a /randomtp command or a /wild command, it is still a
smart idea to store your items in a safe location. You never know what can
happen on the server. If for some reason, the server you go on has no Ender
Chest at spawn, you will want to hope it has a PVP Timer of some sort, so that
when you run to the wild, you will not be immediately killed by the people
probably camping the drop to the wild. Run as far as you can, preferably 1k
blocks before the world border or more. Also check your X and Z coordinates,
and be certain that your X is different from your Z (negative/positive-wise).
Make sure that whenever you run out of hunger, set your home, go to the
wild/warzone, and get yourself killed. This will save wherever you stopped
running, not lower your faction power, and let you restore your hunger. If
there is no Ender Chest, make sure NO ONE is following you, dig a 3-4 block
hole, craft a chest, store your items in that chest, cover up the hole, set
your home on top of the chest, go to wild/warzone, and get yourself killed.
Repeat these steps until you are at whatever location you see fit.

The Aggressive Approach:
Now, for this approach, you will NOT want to store all your items in an Ender
Chest. You will want to store all the items in your Ender Chest that in no way
relate to pvp at all. You will then use whatever armor and weapons you
received, and go to the wild. This is where it gets tricky. If any of you have
ever played the game "Feeding Frenzy," it will kind of work like
that. You will start out small, so go for the smaller, weaker players, or
players as strong as you are, while avoiding the people stronger then you. As
you get stronger and stronger, with better and better armor, don't be afraid to
go for the big fish. Just don't die at the very beginning of this approach, or
you will suffer a huge setback. Strength II Potions can help you get better
armor, so don't be afraid to use potions to your advantage!

Step 3: Making the Base (Temporary)
Now, you are going to want to make a suitable base to store your loot, and make
more game changing items and builds. You will not want to make it a
permanent base just yet, until you get the materials and manpower to do so.

The Peaceful Approach
Now that (hopefully) you have located the whereabouts of wherever your base is,
may it be in the Nether or the Overworld (the End is also a good place, but
it is more suitable for permanent bases,) it's time to start building. Depending on
what you want, you have 3 main types of bases you can build, some being more
hidden then others:

The Underground Base:
This base is very hidden, as people don't usually think to dig straight down
for bases. Best made under an ocean (or a lava pool, depending on what
dimension you are in), this base is the BEST for temporary bases, due to the
relative ease of building it, along with how hidden the base is in general. Be
warned though, if hackers prowl the server, it can be easily found by X-Ray, or
Chest ESP.

The Land Base:
This base is not hidden in the slightest, as it is basically showing itself to
anybody who nears the base. Best made on landmasses surrounded by natural
obstacles (trees, rocks, mountains, etc), this base is NOT RECOMMENDED for
temporary bases, as it will be easily found, and raided by anyone who happens
to walk by that area. On the other hand, they are the easiest to defend by far.

The Sky Base:
This base may not be as hidden as underground bases, but is still hidden nonetheless.
Best made above oceans, or above the nether (yes, you can get up there), this
base is GREAT for temporary bases, as rather than building on the land, or
digging out a base area, you build the land, and the base together. Hackers
don't usually see these bases, as they tend not to look up when hunting for
bases.

Once you have picked what type of base you are building, build the base! Each
piece of faction land you claim will be 16x16, costing one power. You have 10
power at max, so plan out your base, and make sure you have everything you
need. A good temporary base will take maybe 1-5 hours to build, so make those
hours count. The necessities of a temporary base are:

Needed
-A farm (for food, preferably Potato), along with a netherwart farm and a sugarcane
farm (for books). Check the spawn shop to see if you can sell crops, and find
the one with the largest price. Make a farm of that as well, if not specified
by the stated farms.
- A chest vault, for the long term storage of items that need to be stored. A
preferred vault should have at least 10 large chests for storage.
-A lobby room for you to spawn into. Should look appealing.

Optional

-A smeltery which consists of 10-20 furnaces, for quick smelting of items.
-A brewery, to make potions for use in PvP, along with PvE.
-If mcmmo is on the server, mcmmo grinders for things such as repair,
acrobatics, etc.
-A mob spawner (not recommended, but you can make one).
-An enchanting room for enchanting items.

The Aggressive Approach:
Now that you have hopefully killed a bunch of people in the wild, it's time for
you to collect your riches, and make yourself a base as well. Travel far out as
well (about 1k blocks away from world border or more), and follow the steps for
building a base as shown in the Peaceful Approach.

Ending Statement:
So, these are some of the things you must know for your first day in Factions.
My advice may not be of utmost help, but I just hope that it can help you guys
(or girls) in some way if you ever choose to go Factions. Good luck to all who
play, have a nice day.

Really cool! Yeah, a while back, some friends and I played a faction server. We used the peaceful approach, eventually we were #2 faction on the server.
