Habitica (habitica.com) is a productivity application that treats your life like a Role-Playing Game.

Originally known as HabitRPG, this website/app was launched by Tyler Renelle in 2013, originally for help with Tyler's own habits. It was launched after a Kickstarter campaign for it raised $41,191. Over the years, it has since evolved.

HabitRPG was renamed to Habitica in July of 2015. This day is now known as "Naming Day", and Habitica users receive a "Veteran Pet" on this day every year.

I have used Habitica since August of 2015, and it is a very great app. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have fun while achieving their goals and doing their chores.

Habitica incorporates RPG elements such as levels and gold. The types of tasks are Habits, Dailies, and To-Dos.

Habits do not use a schedule, and can be positive, negative, or both. The user is rewarded with experience and gold for clicking on a positive Habit. However, they lose health if they click on a negative Habit.

Dailies can be checked off to gain experience and gold. If a Daily is missed, the user will take damage. Completing all Dailies gives the user a "Perfect Day" buff, which increases their stats (Strength, Intelligence, Constitution, and Perception) by their level divided by 2. Dailies also reset every day, at midnight local time by default.

To-Dos can be checked once, and they never cause the user to lose health. They only get redder and redder the longer they are left undone.

The color of a task represents its value and is used to determine the reward gain or health loss. If the user runs out of health, they will lose a level, all of their gold, and a random piece of equipment.

Levels are gained by getting enough experience. When the user reaches Level 10, they will get to choose a class, start getting attribute points for their stats until level 100, and gain special skills based on their class. The four classes are Warrior, Mage, Healer, and Rogue. Warriors can damage Bosses in Quests using Brutal Smash, and they gain more critical hit bonuses. Mages gain levels faster than other classes. Healers. take less damage from negative Habits and missed Dailies. And lastly, Rogues gain more Gold. Skills cost Mana to use. Mana is gained from completing tasks and lost from clicking on negative Habits.

Quests are something that a user can do in a Party, which is a group of users. Quests can reward equipment as well as eggs for hatching pets. The user will gain achievements after collecting enough pets, as well as doing other things in Habitica such as maintaining streaks on their Dailies.

There are two types of currency in Habitica: Gold and Gems. Gold is gained by completing tasks and as a reward for quests. Some of a Rogue's skills also reward them with Gold. Gold is spend on equipment or custom Rewards. A custom Reward can be used for anything from playing video games to buying Gems.

Gems are premium currency. They can be purchased with real money. Subscribing also lets you buy Gems with Gold, among other benefits. Gems are used to buy quests, pet eggs/hatching potions, pet food, and even special items such as the Orb of Rebirth unlocked after level 50 (the Orb of Rebirth lets you restart from level 1). They are also used in creating Guilds or Challenges.

Challenges are community events that can reward users with Gems. They are also shared task lists. They can either be permanent or have a set end date.
