Ever wonder how the great maps like sky blook got to have an void that goes for ever. How did they do it? Did they to breack every single one of those block?(I'm going on as if you don't know what MCEdit is) Well I have a simpler way, one that can be done inside Minecraft with no mods.
Step 1: Create Your World
Step 2: Change the world Generation to superfalt
Step 3: Click the custusmize button under the superflat tab
Step 4: Click Preset
Change the text 2;7;2x3,2;1;village to 2;0;1;village then generate your world and then fly up and use the command /setblock ~0 ~0 ~0 1 to place your first block!
Idea to use the /setblock command came from the very nice -WaffleKing- inseed of using MCedit or falling sand!
Have Fun
