As of Minecraft version 1.6, Horses have become a feature in Minecraft.  This blog will take you over all of the features of horses, including how to tame them, breed them and much more.

You can only find Horses in eithe Plains  or Savanah  biomes, making them somewhat rarer than other passive mobs in the game.  When you encounter a Horse, it may either be in the form of a Horse like so:
undefined

Or they may be in the form of a donkey, like this:
undefined

The way that you tame the two of them is the same, and it is only their uses that vary.

To start of, you need to Right Click the Horse or Donkey with an Empty Hand.  This alows you to mount the Horse and begin the taming process.
undefined

The Horse may try to throw you off a few times, and will display smoke particles when doing so, after time the Horse will accept you more and will eventually display Heart particles to show that he is tamed.

undefined

Once tamed, you can press E to open up the horses inventory.

undefined

There are two slots, one is for a saddle and the other is for horse armour.  You can place the items into the slots to put them onto the horse.

With Donkeys tere is only one slot on the inventory for a saddle as you cannot use Horse Armour on a Donkey.

undefined

once items are placed into the slots, they show on the Horse and Donkey.

undefined

You can right click a chest onto a Donkey in order to allow it to hold items, showing in its inventory like so.

undefined

And thats it, that is how you tame a Horse to make it yours.

Breeding
Breeding your Horses
In order to activate love mode on a horse, you can use either a Golden Carrot or a Golden Apple, and this will allow them to breed like any other mob, the child will inherit some of the properties of its parents, such as colour, speed and jump height.

You can also breed Horses and Donkeys together to make mules, mules cannot breed, but can be faster than Donkeys and can still transport Items.
