In June, I tried playing in survival mode again for the first time since January 2019.
I started my current survival world this Monday. So far, I have built my base in a plains not far from a snowy village, made some farms, discovered a cave system under my base that goes to y=11 where I started strip mining for ores (and finding 9 diamonds among other ores), tamed a horse, went to the Nether many times, the first of which was probably before I started the strip mine. In the Nether, I spawned in a basalt deltas near a warped forest.
Today, after discovering a mineshaft, a bamboo jungle, and lots of iron, I went to the Nether to get some quartz to decorate my base. I went to the warped forest because why not. Endermen are everywhere in the warped forest, so to avoid getting caught, I had to be aware of what I'm looking at. Suddenly, I heard a ghast, and trying to avoid looking at endermen, I just dug down to hide from it. But I did accidentally look at one, and it teleported to where I was and finished me off.
I respawned at my base. I took a diamond pickaxe (which I normally don't use to mine, but I had it) and some building blocks from my chest, and I made a sword from the iron that I left in the furnace. Then I hopped into my portal and went to the warped forest. The enderman was still in the hole I dug, so I dug another hole nearby and mined in the direction of my stuff.
I was able to get all of my stuff without being provoked, then I killed off the enderman while staying within a 2 block high space. What did it drop? I didn't think it dropped any pearls, but it did drop the nylium it was holding. I went back to the portal and into the Overworld, then realizing it was nighttime, went to bed. After waking up, I decided to keep the nylium block to commemorate this event (I won't be getting more of them anytime soon), and made an item frame where I placed it next to the clock and cave entrance.
The moral of the story? Keep a diamond pick and iron ingots in your base at all times, in case you accidentally look at endermen.
