Hello People! Today, I bring you a tutorial on how to survive CORRECTLY. And by corrctly, I mean being efficient and safe.

So, when you first start in your survival world, of course get wood, crafting table, blah, blah, blah. BUT WAIT. Mining is a Minecrafter's Best Friend! But, you may be doing it wrong. Those creepers and skeletons surely want to stop you!

So, before you mine, have 2 wood pickaxes, 2 wood swords, and some food. Choose out an area for a mine. I prefer Extreme Hill biomes, due to emeralds, but a hill or mountain is fine. Get 26 cobblestone. Use it to make 2 furnaces, 2 stone picks, and 2 stone swords. WAIT AGAIN. Before you rush out to a cave or start making your own mine, lets look at benefits and drawbacks (Pro's and Con's).

So there are 2 base ways to mine. Making your own, and finding a cave.

Making you own mine

Pro's
1.) Safer then cave mining, if lit properly.
2.) Can get a lot of iron and coal.

Cons
1.) More time consuming
2.) Waste more pickaxes and shovels

Cave Mining (or Spelunking as I like to call it)

Pro's
Can get down to diamond level quicker
Find ores faster and easier.
Waste less Pickaxes and Shovels

Cons
Dangerous- Mobs like to spawn, and lava tends to get in the way.
Deep Falls.
Can get lost easier.

So, each way of mining is different, and I will explain what to bring and how to prepare.

Home-Made Mine

So, your mine is home-made? Awesome. The recommended materials are:

Materials
2 Stone Picks- A back-up is nice
2 Stone Swords- Extra Sword can save your life.
Crafting Table- To craft extra tools if needed
Spare Sticks and Wood- For Crafting use
Furnace- To cook food or ores without having to leave your mine.
Food- Well, I don't need to explain this, do I?

OPTIONAL- These are optional, but I bring them anyway
Ladders (Just in case you fall)
Signs (To block pesky water and lava)
Shovel (To remove annoying sand, dirt, and gravel)

So, once you got supplies, I will show you the way I mine.

I branch mine. Proven to be one of the most effective ways to mine, I choose it. Start mining around 10-20 blocks below the surface. Mine a hallway that is 2x2, and branch off another halleway every 3rd-6th block. Keep doing that, and you will come across a lot of iron, coal, and cobblestone. Keep going until your pick breaks, or you have around 30-40 iron and about 25 coal. The rest is after the Spelunking Tutorial.

Spelunking (Cave Mining)

So this is obviously a different mining approach as you will not need to break as many blocks, or use as many pickaxes or shovels. However, materials differ a bit on the offensive side.

Materials
3 Stone Swords- More monsters means more wear n' tear.
2 Stone Pickaxes- More is better
Crafting Table- To craft back-ups
Spare Wood and Sticks- To craft stuff
Furnace- To cook food on-the-go
Colored Wool, Signs, Fences, Pumpkins,or Jack-O-Lanterns. (SOMETHING to mark when you've been)

OPTIONAL- Not required, but I use them
1-2 Wolves (Allies can help)
Leather Armor, If not, a tunic. (Protection is good)
Bow + Arrows (Ranged is nice)
EXTRA signs/fences (to plug up water and lava)

This requires more materials, but if you know what you are doing, you can strike it rich. However, right now, only focus on iron/coal. This is immensfully more useful then diamond at the moment. (WHA?!?!?!) Ignore gold and redstone RIGHT NOW. We will come back to this. Mine about 30-40 iron and about 25 coal. NOTE: Remember to mark off area's you've been. Don't get lost! Mobs might seem to be everywhere, be careful! Climb your way back to your house when your done!

NEXT:
So now that you are home and hopefully didn't die too many times, time to smelt iron with coal. Split the coal and iron in half and make both the furnaces work together. When done, the first things to make are an iron sword, pickaxe, and chestplate. All will be useful. Then the rest is recommend to make shears, 1-2 buckets, or leggings.

Obviously, a farm is recommended to start at this point with a bucket or two. Sugar Cane and Wheat are the most important, along with cows for breeding. Leather and Paper are among the most important things next, for books. But the next will be soon to come!

HEY! YOU!
Thank you for reading this. Part II will come out and will explain Diamond Efficiency! Diamonds, Favorites, and Subs are Appreciated! Thank you guys sooooooo much for Level 30!
