Yay! As you probably don't know, I recently reached 400 subscribers! Thank you all so much, and I hope everyone continues to like my submissions! I couldn't have gotten to this fantastic number of people who view my submissions without the wonderful community of PMC! Thanks to everyone again! To celebrate a little and show my appreciation, I decided to do a very simple face drawing tutorial. I hope this helps!
DISCLAMER:
This tutorial is based on my own style of drawing. I am a self taught artist through Youtube videos, books, experience, and observation. I am in no way a professional artisit, and my tutorial is not a step-by-step drawing walkthrough, but just a guidline for drawing anime styled things in general, and compares more realistic things to a simplified style. This is not a very comprehensive tutorial, but I may make more for eyes, hair and facial expressions. I'm not yet experienced in figures and bodies, so I'm not doing a tut on that for a long time. xD
Well, with that, let's begin!
First, it's best to begin with a slightly elongated oval. Draw a long vertical line in the middle of that. About 3/4 of the way down the oval, begin the jawline. The length of the jawline will vary based on what kind of facial strucure you want, but for general purposes, it should extend about 1/4 the length of the oval before it curves into the chin. End each side of the chin at the center line. Now it's time for the eyes. As we'll see later, the placement of the eyes affects the age of the face. For a teenager's face, place the bottoms of the eyes on a line where the chin starts. Draw a horizontal line across the center of the oval. The tops of the eyes should reach just under there. There should be another eye of space between the eyes. The eyebrows will arch on the center line. The inner part of the eyebrows should touch the line, but the outer corners don't have to. Next, the nose should be placed at the bottom of the oval. The mouth should be halfway between the chin and nose. The hairline will be placed halfway between the eyebrows and top of the head. Finally, the ears will be from the eyes to the nose. For a more anime-styled face, the corners of the jawline and chin could be sharper than I have in this sketch.
The placement of the eyes affects the age of the face. I explained where to place a teenager's eyes, but an adult's eyes would be higher up and a child's eyes would be lower.
Tips on head structure: The jawline should go in front of the ear and the line would stop around the middle. The round part of the head is behind the ear and jawline. In anime, blushy lines are common under the eyes. Don't overdo it though! Three is enough.
Unfortunately, I don't have a comprehensive guide on drawing eyes, but this is comparing a more realistic eye to a semi-realistic anime one. That might be an idea for a tutorial in the future! :D
Anime noses are very simplified!
Mouths are very simple as well.
A sketch using these principles!
I'll try to get more tutorials in the future, so look forward to those! Thanks for reading!
Youtube channels I reccomend for tutorials: Sycra and Mark Crilley

I do have two of Mark Crilley's books.
I kind of think it's a bit more of a stylistic thing, and Mark Crilley definitely does have much more of a realistic and less simplified style than I would like to have.
I'm not a professional like he is xD
I did intend for this to be a more manga-y style, and I've seen far more dramatically "puppy" large eyes than I have here xD
But thank you for the adivce and comments! :)
