I've decided to start writing these short stories about things that really happened to me throughout my life up to the present day. I've also not written anything in a while that's not for my writing class or own recreation/boredom killing.
So, this story is about my (very, very, very) brief job as a tech support call taker. I had to sit in an office and take calls from concerned people for 8 hours at a time. Rinse and repeat. So one night I'm working the late shift in the office with about six other people and I get a call from a rather old woman who;s having troubles with her television set turning on randomly in the middle of the night. From a tech standpoint this happens quite often, and the common solution is to check your cables and remote's battery. However, my conversation with this woman went something like this: (note, we had to follow a starting and finishing call script)
" Hello and thank you for calling tech support for <company name> My name is <name> how may I assist you?"
" Hello, I'm having trouble with my television set, can you help me?"
" Of cource, ma'am, what is the problem?"
" My television keeps turning itself on in the middle of the night and waking me up"
" This happens quite alot, did you make sure all the cables were attached and not tampered with?"
" Oh, I've checked through the cables and buttons and remote, it's all fine"
* at this point, I go through all the other solutions with her, and she continues to deny that those will work
" Well, <my name> I think I have something to tell you about my television that I'm positive is the problem at this point"
" Go ahead, ma'am."
" Well, I believe in ghosts and life after death and all that, and I think a ghost is messing with the television, trying to tell me something"
* at this point, I've hung up after politely saying that I couldn't help her anymore, and that maybe it would stop if she followed my instructions.
About a month later, I quit that job.
