I used to have a really laggy computer for Minecraft. Then I got a new one that worked MUCH faster, but I still felt I wanted more. So I tweaked and modded my minecraft to get over 3x more FPS than usuall. Here is what I did.

1) I Downloaded OptiFine - if you ever hear someone say OptiFine is sh*t, don't believe them. It is an AMAZING mod for improving performance and it is an essential for me. You can look up the best settings online (I am too lazy to post them :P)

2)I set a higher Priority- Open task manager. Right click on "Javaw.exe" or just "Java.exe" and hover over "set priority." chose "high" and when it asks you if you are sure, click "Change priority." What this does it gives minecraft the most memory out of any other running program to make it as fast as possible. This is especially good when you play minecraft with lots of other programs running.

3) Simple Resourse Packs - By now your minecraft should have improved a lot, but If you still want more, minimize your texture pack resolution to only downloading 16x16, or just use the defualt.

4) Video Settings- I'm sure you know all the good video settings for minecraft, but please use them. That's really it.
