I was sitting in my living room watching a show when suddenly TV was
interrupted by an Emergency Broadcast. The anchor says, "Please remain
calm and stay indoors.." Before he can give any details there's a power
cut. Now all I could hear are the sirens going off in the distance. I jumped
up from my spot on the couch and ran in to the kitchen where my mom was
preparing dinner. She looked at me with wide eyes and asked me what was
happening. I replied and tell her I had no idea, but I'm was going into the
backyard to find out if I could see anything. She told me to be careful
and kissed my cheek. If I had known that would be the last time I would
see her I would tell her I love her. I would kiss her back. I would've
stayed inside. Instead I made a stupid mistake that I regret every
night. I went outside despite what the news anchor said. I ran out the
back door into our fenced off yard and gasped. The whole sky was
overtaken by large ships, like ones I had seen on Star Wars when I was
little. I screamed, but it was too late. I felt a small tug at the top
of my head, and the next thing I knew I was six feet off of the ground. I
started to sob. I didn't want this to be the end. I didn't want to die
yet. I suddenly felt tired, so I closed my eyes, unable to fight off the
urging feeling of desperate need of sleep. Little did I know the next
time I opened my eyes, my life would change forever. I slowly opened my
eyes to find myself laying in what seemed to be a hospital bed, but more
hi-tech. I felt a pinching pain in my side, and looked down to see a
large tube coming out of my left side body. I winced, and touched the
sore area around the tube. Then I thought of the broadcast on the news, and remembered the sirens. I remembered the news anchor telling people not to leave their homes. Of course I left mine. I was the one who always got into trouble. I guess someone heard me wincing at the pain in my side, because a doctor came into the small room I was in and looked worried. She yelled to what I assume was a nurse. She told me I was going to be okay, I just needed to be brave, and not get myself into trouble. I didn't know it then, but that women would become my best ally. She would be the one to always help me and make me feel brave. We needed each other. After a few minutes of being checked over, she told me I needed another surgery to get the tube out of my side. When I asked her what it was the for, she told me it was for when they drained all of the air from Earth from my lungs and pumped in their air. She said most people go into shock from this procedure, but I didn't. I was one of the few strong ones. Before I went into surgery she told me I was probably going to be drafted into their army to fight on Earth. The thought of this gnawed at me, and made me lose sleep many nights. I didn't want to fight against my people but somehow I knew there wasn't a way to resist this time. These people had taken me from my planet. They weren't playing.


The next time I woke up the tube was out of my side. It felt more comfortable to breathe, and someone had changed my clothes into an old t-shirt and sweatpants. Slowly and carefully I sat up in the bed.
