I'm sure most of us have lived in a cave at one point, or perhaps a mage tower. Maybe even a cottage in a meadow. The fact is, the abode of a Minecrafter can vary greatly, whether it is a jungle temple, cannibalized into a home, or perhaps a castle in the sky.

Homes like this always server a purpose, whether that purpose is clear or not is another story. Most homes in Minecraft are built for THREE big reasons.

1. Safety- Obviously you don't want to be swarmed in the night by rampaging Zombies and deadly Skeletons, so your house reflects this. You might build complex redstone traps, or you might build tall, well lit walls. Personally, I just like a lot of light.

2. Survivability- You survived mobs of all kinds, but you now have to get food, armour and tools. A good home will accommodate all of these things. Some people like to build mines inside their base, or at least very close by. As for food, farms are almost essential, unless you enjoy Zombie Brains. I have seen many types of farm integration into homes, and for the most part I agree that having a large farm within your base defenses, is ALWAYS a good idea.

3. Atmosphere- This one might just be me, but even if I had tools, food and defense, I would rather live in a nice looking base, full of colour, than live out my Minecrafting days hiding in a cave, with dripping water from goodness knows where. The point is, most people will create a home, rather than just live in a hole. Of course, I may be wrong. I admit, I have lived in caves before, but I always put a little effort into making it look nicer.

The Modern Minecrafter needs a home that will satisfy all of their needs. We no longer live in Alpha, where a dirt shack would cover it. No! These days we all need something we can build, live in and be proud of!
