So many people have or have had a server of there own, even if its only for a few weeks / months. Apparently having your own server is the cool thing to do these days.
I have noticed so many new servers these days, from a personal opinion and my own experience i dont expect them to last long. When i first began playing MC i had to jump about 4-5 servers because the previous ones shut down within a month or 2 of me playing.
I have been running my own server for almost 2 years now, initially created as a side income (didnt expect anything so quick). But 2 years later the server rarely gets any donors which isnt bothering. The server i run itself is setup to my own personal preferance, my own likes of plugins as well as a few small additional plugins. I expect my players and share with them this one thing...
"If you want to see something added to the server please submit it to our forum"
Or
"Im sorry but we are currently limited to what can be provided on this server because of lack of income/donations"
Ironicly these 2 statements do not budge them any, still no plugin requests on our new forum, still no donations. Does this bother me any? Yes because i want the users to overall be active in managing the server, as well as it would help take a load off my own wallet. But on the other hand by the players no contributing in any sence it does tell me that they are happy with the size, and features my server has to offer.

Now my question to all you users who has ran or is currently running your own server...
Why did you initially create your own server?
Did you create it hoping to receive some extra money to live off?
Did you do it because you think you can make yours safer than others?
Did you do it just for you and a few buddys from school/work?
Did you do it be the coolest post popular guy on MineCraft?
Or is it some other reason?
Please feel free to express yourself as openly as you would like to, i see 50million servers out there, most are going nowhere or get shutdown because Jr. could afford to pay for splurging the server a $30 monthly fee
