The first district of my citybuild is slowly but surely getting there, and one of the biggest inspirations behind it is also something that's always fascinated me about cities: the constant battle between decay and regeneration that plays out in them every day. The way that buildings crumble and infrastructure ages at the same rate that people are able to replace and repair them.
This abandoned Salvation Army Citadel in Sheffield, UK is one of my favourite buildings in the city because it offers a glimpse of what starts to happen when people stop being part of that process. It's been abandoned since 1999, and plans to turn it into a restaurant or bar haven't made it much further than the planning stage yet.
This wasn't a particularly difficult build to make, and it probably took 5 hours in all to get it to this semi-completed state. I originally started off using a 1:1 scale, but eventually upscaled it to 1.5:1 so that I could include most of the details and stonemasonry while keeping it at a realistic scale. It was built mostly using reference images and what I was able to glean from Google Earth and Maps.
The inside is empty for now, but I'm planning to decorate the interior based on some of these amazing pictures on 28Dayslater. Once it's done, i'll include the download link to the map and you're free to explore or use it however you like.
