The River Class of locomotives was designed by Thomas seewell in 1912 using the stable 4-6-0 wheel arrangement and was presented to the LAUR (Linford & Avonshire Union Railway) in early 1912 as the main freight locomotive design. Avon, designated N-164, was the lead train of her class named after the river that runs through the heart of linfordshire.
