I have built the Hurtigruten ship M/S Lofoten, a ship who is still in service since 1964. I built the ship in the current look, as of 2016. It was put into Hurtigruten service 5th March 1964 for Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab, and sailed the Svalbard express route from 1968 to 1982. In 1977, it grounded in Tjeldsundet during its express route sailing. It was modified at Aalborg Værft in Aalborg, Denmark in 1980 and 1985, when the hull was painted blue, and the next year the hull was again painted black. In 1985, Ofotens secured stock majority and in 1988 the two companies merged into Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab. 9 months later, Lofoten was sold to Finnmark Fylkesrederi & Ruteselskap in Hammerfest 31st September 1988. The ship did 4 tours to Murmansk in 1993 and sailed the 30 year anniversary cruise. Lofoten returned to OVDS 1st February 1996 after modifying. In 2002, the ship was replaced by the new M/S Finnmarken, and sailed as a replacement for M/S Nordnorge from 2002/03 to 2006/07. Nordnorge sailed in Antarctica, and OVDS chartered M/S Nordstjernen from TFDS in 2005/06 due to Nordnorge's sister ship M/S Nordkapp also sailed in Antarctica from 2005/06. In 2006, OVDS and TFDS merged into Hurtigruten AS. When another Hurtigruten ship M/S Lyngen was sold, Lofoten could sail in regular Hurtigruten service. In 2015, after celebrating the 50 year anniversary the previous year, the interior and exterior was restored to 1964, and the funnel was painted into VDS colors, and the badges in the bow also returned.
