Here you got M/S Midnatsol from 1982, and is the third Hurtigruten ship to have this name. She is the sister ship of M/S Narvik and M/S Vesterålen. She is owned by Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskab, Tromsø, and sailed its first Hurtigruten sailing 5th December 1982. In winter of 1988, Midnatsol went to Motorenwerke Bremerhaven, West-Germany for rebuilding. A new section was placed above the cargo deck and the panorama saloon at the upper deck was expanded. It was followed by Vesterålen in autumn 1988 and Narvik in autumn 1989. When the new Hurtigruten ship was almost finished at Fosen Yard, Midnatsol have to set the rome number II to the name, and got its name Midnatsol II 9th January 2003. It finished in Hurtigruten service 15th April 2003 and laid up at Fiskerstrand Verft. A new career at Hurtigruten would start in 2005, and changed its name to Lyngen, after the former "lokalruteskip" of TFDS. In 2006, OVDS and TFDS merged and Hurtigruten ASA was founded. At 10th October 2007, Lyngen arrived Bergen for final time in Hurtigruten service, and was later sold to Lindblad Expeditions, and was rebuilt to a cruiseship named National Geographic Explorer.

The other sisters, Narvik was sold to USKF in February 2007 and renamed Gann and is currently sailing as a school ship. Vesterålen is still in Hurtigruten service.
