The Royal Palace of Caserta is a grand country palace of the Neapolitan kings in the city of Caserta
Judging by the number of rooms (1200) and the area (61 thousand sq. m.), the Caserta Palace is one of the largest buildings erected in Europe in the XVIII century, and the 18th largest in the world. The Neapolitan Bourbons explained the need for suburban construction not only by considerations of international prestige, but also by the fact that the main royal residence in Naples was open to attacks from the sea. The palace in Caserta was built according to the project of the architect Luigi Vanvitelli, who took as a model not so much the Palace of Versailles as the royal palace in Madrid, where the then King Charles VII spent his childhood years.
