this is the SS Kardam of 1901, the lead ship of a class of four passenger and cargo liners meant to travel very long distances, usually on routes to Latin America or even Africa, also used as cargo liners in the Black Sea and in the Mediterranean.
The lead ship (in service from 1901 to 1932) was named after khan Kardam of Bulgaria (777 AD-803 AD). Kardam is in the largest part responsible for the restoration of order in Bulgaria, which had suffered from a rapid turnover of rulers and had been repeatedly defeated by the Byzantines in the third quarter of the 8th century AD.
The ship served a relatively peaceful career with no known serious accidents. It was replaced by more modern ships of this type and was slowly broken up in 1932-1935.
